Creative Interactive Designer (Photoshop Automation) - Part-Time, Contract Description A creative organization is seeking a *Creative Interactive Designer* to join its team on a *temporary, part-time basis*. This role averages *approximately 40 hours per month* and may be a strong fit for someone currently working full-time who is looking for supplemental project-based work.
The team leverages an existing *Photoshop automation system* to streamline creative production workflows. This system is actively used and production-critical. The person in this role will help ensure the automation continues to run smoothly, troubleshoot issues when they arise, and make small improvements or updates over time. This position focuses on *maintaining and extending an existing Photoshop automation workflow*, rather than building something new from scratch. The automation is implemented as a *macOS droplet application*, combining *AppleScript*, *Photoshop*, and *JavaScript (ExtendScript / Action Manager)* to execute repeatable, production-scale image processing. This role sits at the intersection of *creative production and automation engineering*. It is less about general software development and more about supporting, stabilizing, and thoughtfully evolving complex Photoshop automation used in live production environments. This is an *ongoing support and enhancement engagement*, not a one-time build. What the Work Involves * Maintain and troubleshoot existing *AppleScript-based Photoshop automation* * Update and refine embedded *Photoshop JavaScript (ExtendScript)* used for: * Layer selection and alignment * Transforms and distortions * Grouping and save/export actions * Color profile conversion * Support changes driven by: * Photoshop version updates * Evolving PSD templates and layer structures * New image or output requirements * Improve script reliability, readability, and maintainability where appropriate * Provide light documentation or knowledge transfer as updates are made Required Skills & Experience * *AppleScript on macOS*, including droplet applications * *Adobe Photoshop scripting*, including: * ExtendScript (JavaScript for Photoshop) * Action Manager code (e.g., ActionDescriptor, executeAction) * Comfortable debugging *production automation and creative workflows* * Able to work within existing scripts and *incrementally improve* them (not rewrite from scratch) Engagement Details * *Expected time:* Approximately 40 hours per month (ongoing) * *Work cadence:* Typically small updates or fixes about once per month, with flexibility as needs arise * *Scope:* Ongoing maintenance, troubleshooting, and incremental enhancements rather than large new builds Skills * AppleScript * JavaScript * Adobe Photoshop Top Skills * AppleScript * JavaScript * Photoshop Nice to Have * Familiarity with standardized image output for *eCommerce or digital publishing* * Comfort working at the intersection of *creative and technical teams* Experience Level * *Intermediate* *Job Type & Location* This is a Contract position based out of Kansas City, MO. *Pay and Benefits*The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $50.00/hr.
