Position Overview

This role is part of a NICU-based float pool, requiring flexibility to float to PICU, Peds, and NBN units. Patient assignments will be made based on the individual's skill set, and floating is mandatory.


Unit Details and Floating

  • Ratios: Patient ratios vary based on unit, acuity, census, and staffing.
  • Scrubs: Navy Pants, Peds Top.
  • Floating: Required to float to PICU, Peds, NBN with appropriate assignments based on skill set.


Required Experience & Clinical Skills

  • Experience Required: 1.5 years with documented NICU Level III and PICU experience.
  • IV Therapy/Medications: A-line management, Central Line/Implanted Line Care, UAC/UVC, IV vasopressors, Steroids, Surfactants.
  • Cardiac/Respiratory: Dysrhythmia Interpretation/Management, Ventilator management (AC/PC/SIMV/CPAP/BIPAP/PEEP).
  • GI/Neuro: Feedings (bottle, breast, gavage), Placement/Management of oral/nasogastric/nasojejunal tubes, Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome.


Required License and Certifications

  • License Requirements: Active NJ or Compact license required at time of submission.
  • Required Certifications: BLS, NRP, PALS.


Scheduling Details and Charting

  • Charting: EPIC experience required.
  • RTO, Block & Scheduling Requests: Priority given to submissions with a screenshot confirming RTO and schedule requests. No requests approved after offer.
  • Call Off Policy: Facility is allowed to call off 1 shift per 2 weeks.
  • Accept First-Time Travelers: Yes.
  • Locals Accepted: Yes, at the same rate.
  • Shift: FRI/SAT/SUN schedule, except on holiday weeks.
  • Winter Holiday Requirement: Clinicians must work or provide on-call coverage for 1 of 2 or 2 of 3 winter holidays, as needed (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years).
  • Weekend Requirement: Every Other Weekend.
  • Hours: 37.5 per week.


Hospital Highlights

The Medical Center has a 56-bed Level III NICU and is a Regional Perinatal Center caring for more than 1,200 premature and ill newborns annually. The PICU provides comprehensive medical and surgical care with full-time pediatric critical care physicians and pediatric subspecialists. The Medical Center is a 597-bed teaching hospital and a major teaching affiliate with a Medical School.
