Department Summary The Epidemiology department in the Fielding School of Public Health is a national leader in preparing a new generation of epidemiologists. Through specialized methodologies, epidemiologists identify, track, and analyze how diseases and other conditions are caused, transmitted, and prevented, as well as how they are distributed throughout the population. Such information plays a critical role in guiding policies and other evidence-based strategies to promote health and work toward health equity. The vital importance of epidemiologic research was highlighted by the COVID-19 pandemic, in which epidemiologists have helped to track outbreaks and provide guidance on how the virus spreads in community settings. Position Summary Seeking a highly organized and collaborative professional to coordinate and support the daily operations of research activities by managing study processes, ensuring compliance with established protocols, and overseeing administrative and operational functions. The successful candidate will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, coordinate participant engagement and follow-up activities, and contribute to the successful execution of research initiatives through effective communication, organization, and problem-solving. Salary & Compensation UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications* Experience with IBM compatible microcomputers, and working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other applications (Required) Experience with HIV disease and an understanding of its impact on the study population (Required) Expereince in medical, HIV/AIDS, and public health technical terms, and the course and treatment of HIV disease and its complications (Preferred) Experience with universal precautions for the collection, storage, transport, clean up and disposal of potentially infectious blood, urine, feces, semen, saliva and mucosal transudates (Ce (Required) Interpersonal skills to relate with in a pleasant, sensitive, professional, and non-judgmental manner with research participants and co-workers from a wide variety of social, cultural, ethnic, and educational backgrounds Ability to maintain calm in emotionally charged circumstances, or when dealing with sensitive issues. Knowledge of general research ethics Ability to work independently, to prioritize tasks, and follow through on assignments with minimal supervision Skill in organizing people, material , and information in a systematic and efficient way Ability to maintain a high level of attention to detail, and to accurately transcribe spoken English Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include early mornings, evenings, and overnight travel Travel to clinics in San Francisco, Palm Springs, and San Diego. Safe driver skills and record, and driver's license valid in California Ability to work with minimal direct supervision and follow through on assignments. Ability to prioritize and perform multiple assigned tasks Problem solving skills: recognizing and defining problems, and identifying possible solutions Knowledge and ability to maintain strict confidentiality and adherence to HIPAA guidelines College-level communications skills in written and fluently spoken English. Excellent listening skills. Ability and willingness to regularly work Saturdays. Ability and willingness to use own vehicle for reimbursable study-related travel Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience (Required) Master's Degree or equivalent in a health sciences field (Preferred) Must possess, upon hire, and maintain a valid CA noncommercial Class C License in accordance with the California (CA) Department of Motor Vehicles. (Required) Phlebotomy skills and knowledge, and certification (Required) Special Conditions for Employment Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.
