  • Identifying opportunities across offices, practices, industries, clients, and attorney relationships to advance cross-selling, referrals, client development, lateral integration, and market-facing initiatives.
  • Translating firm, office, practice, and partner priorities into focused business development plans and go-to-market initiatives, using research and data to identify opportunities, inform decisions, and track outcomes.
  • Guiding client targeting, key-client expansion, strategic relationship development, lateral partner integration, and priority pursuits, including senior-level strategy and quality oversight for pitches, RFPs, and proposals.
  • Developing a coordinated California profile-raising strategy and cultivating relationships with organizations, associations, referral sources, and strategic partners to strengthen Venable's visibility with priority audiences.
  • Leading, coaching, and developing the Regional Marketing Specialist team while driving consistent processes, effective collaboration, information sharing, and thoughtful use of data, technology, templates, and automation.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • A bachelor's degree in a related field or education/experience equivalent required.
  • A minimum of seven years of progressive marketing and/or business development experience in a law firm or similar professional services environment.
  • At least three years of team management experience, including performance management, reviews, training, day-to-day supervision, and responsibility for individual and team results.
  • Proven ability to develop and manage business development, client, and regional marketing plans and to coach attorneys on generating business opportunities through networking, events, sponsorships, RFPs, speaking engagements, and social media.
  • Experience with project management and marketing technology systems, including CRM and e-marketing platforms, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and the ability to quickly adopt new technologies.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, including the ability to evaluate market and marketing data, identify opportunities and challenges, draw sound conclusions, track outcomes, and improve processes and operational efficiencies.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, presentation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the poise, judgment, discretion, and emotional intelligence to build trusted relationships and communicate persuasively across all levels of the organization.
  • A collaborative, client-focused, and results-oriented approach, with the organizational skills and adaptability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment while maintaining high standards for quality, responsiveness, and service.
