FTE 1Scheduled Bi-Weekly Hours 80Work Shift Day: 8 hoursJob Description The Sr. Director of Decision Support and Business Analytics is responsible for the creation, direction and oversight of a technical and analytic team. The Sr. Director works under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer to foster metric driven organizational planning; operates with autonomy in developing work plans, selecting appropriate analytic staff and assuring the use of best practice business analytics to define and evaluate decisions. The Sr. Director interacts successfully with executive staff, departmental directors, senior management and the Finance Committee of the Board. The role is the enterprise owner of financial modeling, business intelligence and decision support, accountable for how El Camino Health converts data into planning, performance management and operating decisions. The Sr. Director is expected to be highly AI literate and to put technology to work: using automation, advanced analytics and artificial intelligence to make the finance and analytics function more efficient and to deliver better operational and financial outcomes for the organization. Key Responsibilities Financial Strategy and Analytics * Hospital Financial Strategy and Performance. Lead the development of hospital wide financial planning, including budgeting, forecasting and long term financial modeling, to align operational goals with the hospital's strategic vision and ensure sustainability. Extend the planning discipline into scenario and what if modeling of labor, volume, payer mix and reimbursement shifts. * Data Driven Decision Making. Establish a robust decision support framework that empowers clinical, operational and executive leaders to make data informed decisions in real time, advancing the service from descriptive reporting toward diagnostic and prescriptive recommendation. * Business Intelligence Development. Oversee the design and governance of comprehensive reporting and analytic tools that support real time operational metrics, financial insights and clinical performance indicators hospital wide, including dashboards, self service analytics and real time views of capacity and patient flow. * Data Governance and Certified Reporting. Own metric definitions, certified sources of truth, report certification, data quality standards and access controls across the reporting estate. Serve as the arbiter of what constitutes an official number at El Camino Health. * Service Line and Cost Analytics. Direct service line profitability analysis, cost accounting and productivity analytics, providing the financial and operational baselines used to evaluate performance and investment decisions. AI Literacy and Technology Enablement * AI Literacy and Applied Judgment. Maintain working fluency in artificial intelligence, machine learning and generative AI sufficient to understand where these tools can and cannot help, to ask the right questions of technical teams and vendors, and to tell a genuine capability apart from marketing claims. This role uses and applies AI; it is not expected to personally build models. * Technology Enabled Efficiency. Continuously identify opportunities to apply automation, advanced analytics and AI to reduce manual effort, shorten reporting and planning cycles, and redirect analytic staff toward higher value work. * Technology for Better Outcomes. Use analytics and AI responsibly to improve operational and financial outcomes, including forecasting accuracy, capacity and throughput, cost reduction, and the timeliness and usefulness of insight delivered to clinical and operational leaders. * Partnering with the Enterprise AI Function. Partner with the organization's AI leadership and data science teams as an informed consumer: supplying trusted data and certified baselines, and adopting validated AI capability into decision support and planning, while model development, clinical validation and AI governance remain owned by the enterprise AI function. * Responsible and Trusted Use. Champion the data quality, structure and access that reliable analytics and AI depend on, and apply new tools in a manner consistent with patient privacy, data security and the organization's AI governance standards. * Learning Agility. Stay current with emerging analytic and AI tools and methods, and foster a team culture that adopts new technology thoughtfully, pilots it against clear success measures, and scales what demonstrably works. Leadership and Engagement * Advanced Analytics and Predictive Modeling. Champion the use of predictive analytics, machine learning and other advanced technologies to enhance the hospital's capacity to forecast trends, optimize resource allocation and improve patient care outcomes. * Cross Functional Collaboration. Work collaboratively with clinical, operational, IT and administrative leaders to identify data needs, optimize hospital performance and guide evidence based decision making across the institution. * Board and Executive Leadership Engagement. Serve as the primary analytics expert for the Finance Committee and Board of Directors, providing high level insight on hospital performance, financial health and strategic initiatives. * Team Leadership and Development. Create, direct and oversee the technical and analytic team, including analysts, report developers, decision support and financial planning staff. Select analytic talent, set analytic standards, and build capability that keeps pace with the organization's data maturity and its adoption of AI. Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Finance, Business or a related field; Master's degree in Health Administration (MHA), Business Administration (MBA) or a related field preferred. * 12 or more years of progressive experience in business analytics, financial planning and performance management, with at least 10 years in leadership roles in a hospital or healthcare setting. * Proven expertise in healthcare financial management, operational analytics and clinical performance metrics. * Strong background in the development and governance of hospital wide business intelligence and analytics solutions. * Exceptional proficiency in data visualization, predictive analytics and automation tools. * Demonstrated AI and data literacy: a working understanding of how machine learning, predictive analytics and generative AI apply to healthcare finance and operations, with the judgment to apply them safely and to evaluate vendor solutions. No requirement to personally build models. * Track record of using technology and automation to improve efficiency and outcomes within a finance or analytics function. * Experience leading cross functional teams and managing large scale, complex projects with significant organizational impact. * Strong communication skills and executive presence, capable of translating complex data into strategic insight for senior leadership and Board level discussion.
