Position Summary:
The Product Configuration Specialist owns the accuracy and maintenance of technology product configurations, kit composition, part-number data, and related ordering information. This position partners with technology sales, support, parts personnel, and vendors to ensure quotes are complete, prices and margins are accurate, and resulting orders can be processed cleanly. The role also manages technology backorder exceptions, supports order placement and research, and identifies opportunities to improve product data, inventory, pricing, and ordering processes. This is an office-based data and operations position and does not include field or installation work.

Responsibilities:
Product configuration & kit data
* Build and maintain machine, application, and kit configurations in Trimble's Guided Selling Tool, DBS, and applicable vendor systems so each configuration is complete, accurate, and orderable.
* Partner with sales and support personnel to translate machine and customer requirements into complete product configurations and bills of material.
* Keep configurations aligned with vendor changes, including part supersessions, kit revisions, substitutions, and discontinuations across Trimble, Topcon, Teledyne, and other FTS vendors.
* Maintain configuration standards, cross-references, and supporting documentation so sales and ordering personnel work from a consistent source of truth.
* Research configuration questions and provide documented recommendations before a quote or order is finalized.

Pricing & margin accuracy
* Maintain cost, discount, and list-price logic in partnership with sales and Parts Support.
* Identify below-cost pricing, unusual margin results, missing prices, or configuration errors and resolve or escalate them before they reach a customer quote or purchase order.
* Maintain documentation supporting significant pricing changes, approvals, and exceptions.
* Ensure strategic discounts are used when needed

Product & item-master governance
* Identify duplicate, obsolete, unpriced, inactive, or incomplete records and coordinate corrective action with Parts Support and other stakeholders.
* Help establish and follow review standards for new parts, discontinued parts, kit revisions, and reusable configuration data.

Ordering & backorder management
* Place technology parts orders and provide ordering coverage during peak demand, planned absences, and other coverage gaps.
* Monitor technology backorders and order exceptions, maintain current status and next-action notes, and escalate aged or at-risk orders.
* Validate vendor acknowledgements against submitted orders and research discrepancies involving price, quantity, availability, part supersession, shipping status, and delivery timing.
* Coordinate direct-ship, expedited, and other exception orders when required.
* Communicate material delays, substitutions, and unresolved order issues to sales, support, and other affected internal stakeholders.
* Assist with invoice, purchase-order, and receiving discrepancies related to technology parts and vendor orders.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Required
* High school diploma or equivalent.
* Experience working with part numbers, product configurations, pricing, purchasing, inventory, order processing, or similarly structured product data.
* Intermediate spreadsheet skills, including filtering, lookups, data comparison, and validation of large datasets.
* Ability to investigate discrepancies across multiple systems, document findings, and drive issues to resolution.
* Strong attention to detail, organization, follow-through, and ability to manage multiple open priorities.
* Clear written and verbal communication with sales, support, vendors, and internal parts personnel.
* Ability to work independently and take ownership of data accuracy and assigned operational processes.
* Comfortable using and working with AI

Preferred
* Experience with DBS or another dealer-management, ERP, CPQ/configuration, item-master, or vendor ordering system.
* Familiarity with construction equipment, machine-control systems, electronics, or technical parts.
* Experience with price-file maintenance, purchasing, margin review, bills of material, inventory analysis, or backorder management.
* Familiarity with Trimble, Topcon, Teledyne, or similar technology products is helpful but not required.

Physical Demands & Work Environment
* Primary work is performed in an office or service facility environment with frequent communication by phone and computer.
* Tasks involve sitting for extended periods, using hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone, and reaching with arms.
* Occasional standing, walking, bending, stooping, crouching and kneeling may be required, especially when verifying equipment status in the yard or assisting with parts logistics.
* Employees are regularly required to talk and hear to communicate with technicians and customers; specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
* Must be able to lift and move up to 25 pounds occasionally (e.g., moving parts or equipment files) and safely handle heavier loads up to 50 pounds with assistance when necessary.
