Medical Lab Scientist III

Location: St. Thomas Midtown/Nashville, TN

Assignment Length: 5+ Months

Shift: 10p-630a (M-F)


Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsibilities may be interchangeable across Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Medical Technologist, and Clinical Laboratory Scientist roles.
  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
  • Make technical decisions related to testing and problem-solving.
  • Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls.
  • Report accurate and timely test results to support quality patient care.
  • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
  • Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as needed.
  • Assist with specimen processing when required.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).


Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or meet applicable local regulatory (CLIA & State) requirements.
  • 2-4 years of clinical laboratory testing experience required.
  • State Medical Technologist license may be required, depending on the assignment.
  • ASCP or AMT certification may be preferred or required, depending on the assignment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient computer skills; familiarity with laboratory information systems is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screening.
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts based on business needs.


Position Requirements - Confirmed

  1. Education / Degree: Open to both Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) - 2-year degree and Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) / Medical Technologist (MT) - 4-year BS degree candidates.
  2. Certification: ASCP or AMT certification is required. Eligible/registered candidates are not being considered.
  3. Laboratory Specialty: Seeking a Generalist with proficiency across Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, and Coagulation.
  4. Department: Core Laboratory (Core Lab).
  5. Blood Bank: Not required.
  6. LIS Experience: Cerner experience is preferred.
  7. Color Vision Screening: Required.
