Job Summary

As a Software Quality Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in developing and validating next-generation vehicle control systems. We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our Software Quality team and help establish the processes, standards, and culture that will elevate our PACCAR Electronics organization to the next level of productivity and compliance. This is a highly visible role with broad cross-functional reach, offering the opportunity to make a meaningful impact across multiple teams as we tackle challenging and rewarding problems together.

Job Functions/Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and own software quality strategies for embedded and connected vehicle systems across the full software development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Conduct rigorous audits of software requirements, system requirements, and design specifications to identify testability gaps, quality risks, and compliance deficiencies.
  • Define, baseline, and actively manage software quality metrics (e.g., defect density, test coverage, escaped defects), acceptance criteria, and release readiness gates in alignment with program milestones.
  • Establish and maintain end-to-end traceability between stakeholder requirements, technical requirements, test cases, defects, and validation evidence using IBM DOORS/ELM.
  • Lead and facilitate root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) activities for critical software defects and process escapes.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives across software quality processes, leveraging data-driven insights to reduce defect recurrence and improve first-pass yield.
  • Support and actively contribute to Automotive SPICE (ASPICE) assessments, gap analyses, and process maturity improvement roadmaps targeting Level 2 and Level 3 compliance.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with software development, systems engineering, hardware, and program management teams to ensure quality is embedded early in the development process, not bolted on at the end.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 7 + years of experience in software quality, software testing, or software validation for embedded systems, preferably in the automotive or commercial vehicle industry.
  • Working knowledge of Agile and Scrum methodologies; PMP or equivalent project management experience is a plus.
  • Experience with requirements and engineering lifecycle management tools such as IBM DOORS Next Generation and IBM ELM/EWM.
  • Demonstrated experience leading quality improvement initiatives; Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Business, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of heavy-duty commercial truck systems, vocational vehicle platforms, or applicable federal/industry regulations.
  • Knowledge of SPICE, Automotive SPICE (ASPICE), and V-Model development processes.
  • Familiarity with ISO 26262 functional safety processes and/or ISO/SAE 21434 cybersecurity engineering.
  • Certified Software Quality Engineer (CSQE) or Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) from ASQ.
