Overview
The Steward Supervisor supervise, train and inspect the performance of assigned Stewarding staff, ensuring that all procedures are completed to the Hotel standards. Assist where necessary to ensure optimum service to guest.
Responsibilities
Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies/service procedures/standards.
- Maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment. Use equipment only as intended.
- Anticipate guests' needs, respond promptly and acknowledge all guests, however busy and whatever time of day.
- Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation and organization of assigned work areas.
- Ensure that assigned staff have reported to work; document any late or absent employees.
- Prepare and distribute assignments for Stewarding staff and review priorities.
- Communicate additions or changes to the assignment sheets as they arise throughout the shift.
- Identify situations which compromise the department's standards and communicate the situations to proper manager.
- Check supply levels in storage closets. Complete requisition for additional supplies needed and submit to manager.
- Inspect cleanliness and organization of storage areas. Assign designated personnel to rectify any deficiencies.
- Check work stations for proper supplies, organization, cleanliness and mechanical problems. Instruct designated personnel to correct deficiencies.
- Review Kitchen and Restaurant service needs from Stewarding throughout the shift and ensure that all requirements are met according to specifications.
- Monitor and maintain designated par levels of operating equipment.
- Monitor and maintain pest control requirements in accordance with Hotel standards.
- Coordinate and assist with Banquet function requirements as assigned.
- Assist Stewarding staff with their job functions where needed to ensure optimum cleanliness and service standards.
- Accommodate requests for additional wares expediently and courteously. Follow up on delivery of all such items.
- Provide feedback on staff performance to manager.
- Respond to all pages by radio promptly.
- Ensure all staff assignments are completed before staff sign out.
- Assist the Executive Steward as assigned
- Attend designated meetings.
- Stock Stewarding supplies.
- Coordinate and assist with inventories as assigned
Qualifications
- 2 years experience in food service janitorial position.
- Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques, requirements and use of equipment/machinery.
- Knowledge of proper chemical handling.
- Fluency in English both verbal and non-verbal.
- Provide legible communication and direction.
- Compute basic arithmetic.
- Ability to:
- satisfactorily communicate in English with management and co-workers to their understanding.

- Previous supervisory experience.
- Fluency in a second language, preferably Spanish and/or Chinese
- Certification in sanitation.
- Previous guest relations training.
- Computer training.
- Endure various physical movements throughout the work areas.
- Flexible and long hours sometimes required.
- Medium work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
- Ability to stand during entire shift.
- Satisfactorily communicate with guests, management and co-workers to their understanding.

- Up to 20 days of paid vacation per year, based on classification and length of service
- 6 days or 48 hours of Paid Sick Leave per year, accrued at 1 hour for every 30 hours worked.
For Employees Based in California:
- 8 paid holidays per year
- Up to 20 days of paid vacation per year, based on classification and length of service, capped at 1.5x annual accrual rate; non-supervisory employees working in the City of Los Angeles accrue up to 22 days of Compensated Time Off, based on length of service capped at 192 hours of combined PST and CTO.
- Paid Sick Time accrues at 1 hour for every 30 hours worked, unused time is carried over from one anniversary year to the next up to a maximum of 80 hours; employees working in the City of Los Angeles are provided 40 hours of Paid Sick Time annually on their anniversary, unused time is not carried over from one anniversary year to the next.
