TMS is currently looking for a Maintenance Manager at our Jewett, TX location.

Core Responsibilities

The Site Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading and coordinating all maintenance activities to ensure safe, reliable equipment availability while fostering a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Safety Management

Safety is the highest priority in all maintenance activities.

  • Conduct daily safety contacts.
  • Ensure all teammates attend monthly and daily safety training.
  • Address safety-related repairs immediately, including but not limited to:
  • Critical safety devices(Alarms, Cameras, Lights, Seat Belts, Fire Extinguishers, etc)
  • Oil leaks on hot work equipment
  • Tools and rigging condition
  • Maintain shop tools and equipment in safe working condition.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead and coordinate daily maintenance operations in a 24/7 environment.
  • Supervise, schedule, and support maintenance staff.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and manage employees and contractors.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Technical Oversight

  • Oversee the hands-on troubleshooting of mechanical, hydraulic, and basic electrical systems.
  • Ensure all repairs meet quality standards and OEM guidelines.
  • Support major repairs and capital improvement projects.

Planning & Coordination

  • Collaborate closely with Operations to:
  • Schedule preventive maintenance (PM)
  • Prioritize Repairs
  • Plan capital projects
  • Align maintenance activities with production needs and equipment availability.

Compliance & Procedures

  • Develop and implement maintenance policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety standards.

Procurement & Cost Control

  • Manage procurement of parts, supplies, and tools.
  • Work with vendors to ensure timely and cost-effective repairs.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and cost control initiatives.

Systems & Documentation

  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs and records.
  • Utilize ERP systems (D365/Power BI/Fleet App) and Microsoft Office for:
  • Scheduling
  • Reporting
  • Documentation

Pre-Operational Inspections (Pre-Ops)

  • Review all pre-op forms daily for accuracy and consistency.
  • Ensure forms are properly completed-watch for "pencil whipping."
  • Communicate discrepancies to Operations immediately.
  • Schedule immediate repairs for safety related and critical issues.
  • Identify and log backlog/observation items in ERP systems.
  • Perform random inspection audits with operators:
  • Validate understanding
  • Provide coaching and training

Communication

Effective communication is essential for a successful maintenance program.

With Master Mechanic/Regional Maintenance Planner (Weekly Minimum)

  • Discuss ongoing issues and technical challenges.
  • Leverage expertise for troubleshooting and planning.

With Operations (Daily)

  • Review equipment availability.
  • Prioritize:
  • Immediate repairs
  • PM Services
  • Routine Maintenance
  • Discuss:
  • Major repairs
  • Capital projects
  • Budget vs. actual spending
  • Operational constraints

With Maintenance Team (Daily)

  • Align on:
  • Daily work plan
  • Immediate repair needs
  • PM schedules
  • Backlog items
  • Major ongoing repairs

Preventive Maintenance (PM)

  • Schedule PM services within a +5% / -10% compliance window.
  • Monitor quality and completeness of PM tasks.
  • Ensure:
  • All checklist items are completed
  • Fluid samples are sent promptly
  • "Action Required" items are followed up

Quality of Repairs

  • Set clear expectations.
  • Avoid temporary repairs without a defined permanent solution.
  • Ensure all repairs are:
  • Tested before release
  • Completed using best maintenance practices
  • Verify:
  • OEM securing devices are reinstalled
  • Electrical work uses corrosion-resistant components
  • Manufacturer guidelines are followed

Maintenance Budget & Cost Control

  • Forecast and communicate maintenance needs in a timely fashion.
  • Track spending daily and maintain awareness of MTD costs.
  • Close purchase orders promptly to maintain accurate forecasts.
  • Continuously evaluate vendors for:
  • Better pricing
  • Improved quality
  • Use competitive pricing strategies where appropriate.

Capital Projects

  • Collaborate with Site Manager, VP/GM, and Master Mechanic/Regional Maintenance Planner.
  • Involve key stakeholders early in planning.
  • Follow corporate maintenance policies where applicable.

Project Requirements

  • Obtain at least 2 quotes, unless:
  • National pricing agreements exist
  • Limited vendor availability
  • Emergency repairs are required

Process

  • Review and compare vendor proposals.
  • Select appropriate vendors.
  • Submit project documentation (MER).
  • Coordinate with purchasing.

A successful Maintenance Manager consistently:

  • Prioritizes safety while balancing cost, and equipment reliability
  • Maintains strong communication across departments
  • Uses data and systems for decision-making
  • Develops people and builds a high-performing team
