Job Purpose:
The Senior Information Technology Systems Engineer supports enterprise and command-level systems used for the ground control of space-based assets. This position is responsible for designing, installing, upgrading, securing, and maintaining high-availability computing environments, high-speed networking, storage systems, web servers, and Redundant Array of Independent Disks server environments. The role also supports cybersecurity compliance and incident-response activities.
Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, upgrade, and maintain enterprise and command-level computer systems.
- Administer Windows, macOS, and Linux systems and servers.
- Configure and support high-availability systems used for the ground control of space-based assets.
- Administer high-speed networking and storage environments.
- Manage Redundant Array of Independent Disks, network, and web-server environments.
- Install, configure, and maintain Interactive Data Language software and associated scientific applications.
- Troubleshoot system, endpoint, communication, and application issues.
- Support switched Ethernet networking using IPv4 and IPv6 protocols.
- Administer Active Directory and Domain Name System environments.
- Implement Windows Administrative Template and Group Policy configurations within government networks.
- Perform backup management, recovery planning, and recovery implementation.
- Recommend technical equipment and obtain quotes for computers, servers, printers, scanners, and software.
- Install and configure equipment and software in accordance with Department of Defense requirements.
- Administer public-facing Windows and Linux web servers within secure demilitarized-zone environments.
- Configure and maintain access-control lists and related network-security controls.
- Implement Department of Defense Security Technical Implementation Guides and Naval Research Laboratory security requirements.
- Respond to cybersecurity and security-incident tickets using system-administration expertise.
- Use Plans of Action and Milestones, Security Technical Implementation Guide Viewer, Assured Compliance Assessment Solution, HP WebInspect, and Acunetix.
- Support Department of Defense Common Access Card Public Key Infrastructure tools, including ActivClient, Centrify, and CAC Key.
- Perform routine system-administration duties, including installations, configurations, backups, patches, upgrades, and user support.
- Maintain accurate databases, system records, user-account information, host records, and activity logs.
Education and Experience:
- Degree in Cybersecurity, Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Equivalent professional experience may be considered.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience designing, implementing, and managing Windows, macOS, and Linux systems and servers.
- Experience designing and supporting enterprise or command-level computer environments.
- Experience with Interactive Data Language, Redundant Array of Independent Disks, network-server management, and web-server administration.
- Experience supporting high-availability and high-speed networking and storage environments.
- Strong knowledge of IPv4, IPv6, and switched Ethernet networking.
- Hands-on experience with desktop and server versions of Windows.
- Experience with Active Directory and Domain Name System administration.
- Experience with backup management, disaster recovery planning, and recovery implementation.
- Expertise implementing Department of Defense Security Technical Implementation Guides.
- Familiarity with Naval Research Laboratory Security Technical Implementation Guide requirements.
- Experience responding to Department of the Navy cybersecurity incidents.
- Experience with Plans of Action and Milestones, Assured Compliance Assessment Solution, Security Technical Implementation Guide Viewer, HP WebInspect, or Acunetix.
- Experience with Department of Defense Common Access Card Public Key Infrastructure tools.
- Experience with Administrative Templates and Group Policy is desired.
- Knowledge of Naval Research Laboratory demilitarized-zone configurations and access-control-list requirements is highly desirable.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
