Job Description

The College of Arts & Sciences is looking for an enthusiastic, detail-oriented person to join our team. This position requires a proactive, positive individual with strong communication skills who is able to work effectively with visitors, students, faculty, staff and external stakeholders from a wide variety of backgrounds. The position provides essential general administrative support that includes a broad range of outreach and fiscal responsibilities for the Whitney R. Harris World Ecology Center in the Department of Biology, including:

  • Overseeing and/or performing a range of administrative activities for the Harris Center, serving as central liaison for the Center and external stakeholders in the resolution of business and program planning matters
  • Assisting the Center Director in business and fiscal administration for the Center
  • Providing support in the processing, documentation and monitoring of unit budgets, funding, grants, contracts, student payroll/employment, travel, billing and/or purchasing, working collaboratively with Biology and CAS
  • Processing and tracking of student scholarships, fellowships, and awards
  • Providing oversight of tasks and/or support to the Director including calendar management, office reception, attending and taking minutes at various executive-level meetings and writing original correspondence
  • Acting as a primary contact for the Harris Center; responding to queries from the greater community and UMSL
  • Managing the Center's website, newsletter and social media outlets, developing original content, soliciting content from students and updating on a regular basis, maintaining contacts with alumni, donors, and the community at large
  • Planning and executing the following annual events, including sending invitations, scheduling panelists, creating event flyers and other promotional materials, scheduling facilities, equipment and catering, attending the events and coordinating all other details with event site, external partners, panelists and donors: Whitney and Anna Harris Conservation Forum, Jane and Whitney Harris Lecture Series, World Ecology Award (GALA), Conservation Action Prize, CLIMB annual event, special speaker events and workshops for students
  • Managing the Collaborative Laboratory Internship and Mentoring Blueprint (CLIMB) program including budget management, communications among stakeholders, and tracking grants and awards
  • Attending community events to offer information Harris Center with the goals of public education, marketing of the Center and the University, and recruiting new students
  • Assisting with special projects assigned by the Director
  • Other duties as assigned
Shift

40 hours/week, Monday-Friday

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Anticipated Hiring Range

$19.25 - $25.00
