Overview Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington. The Senior Director of Strategy plays a leading role in shaping the strategic agenda of Fred Hutch Cancer Center.The role leads the development of enterprise strategic priorities, frames major strategic opportunities, and guides early-stage assessment and decision-making on issues that influence Fred Hutch's long-term direction. The Senior Director serves as a strategic advisor to the VP, Strategy & Partnerships and the EVP, Chief Strategy & Clinical Growth Officer and works closely with executive and clinical leaders to identify and evaluate opportunities that support Fred Hutch's mission, growth, and performance. In addition to leading enterprise strategy work, the Senior Director is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and operation of the Strategy function. The role helps coordinate the team's portfolio, establish priorities, balance workload and resources, and ensure consistent execution across strategic initiatives. Working in close partnership with the Vice President and EVP, the Senior Director enables the organization to execute effectively while allowing executive leadership to remain focused on enterprise strategy, growth opportunities, and external partnerships. A core responsibility of the Senior Director is supporting the VP in defining enterprise priorities by framing issues, preparing analyses and business cases, coordinating stakeholder input, and organizing the strategy portfolio. It also includes triaging strategic requests, partnering with the VP to determine priorities and appropriate staffing for complex strategic questions. Once priorities are established, the Senior Director partners with Strategists and the Transformation Management Office to ensure a coordinated transition from strategy development to operational planning and execution while maintaining visibility into progress, risks, and dependencies. The Senior Director also works closely with Data and Analytics. The role ensures that strategic planning and enterprise decisions are guided by strong analytic insights, reliable data, and transparent performance indicators. The Senior Director prepares strategic presentations for executive leadership, manages relationships with internal and external partners, and supports organizational decision-making on high-impact initiatives. The role requires strong analytical skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work across clinical, research, and administrative functions. The Senior Director is expected to operate with a high degree of independence while keeping the VP, Strategy & Partnerships and the EVP, Chief Strategy & Clinical Growth Officer informed of major risks, opportunities, and recommendations. The annual base salary range for this position is from $200,158.40 to $333,569.60, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
