Job Title: Phlebotomist II Location: 902B Roanoke Ave Elizabeth City NC 27909 Shift: Monday-Thursday 0800-1700; Friday 0800-1200 Training Location: Chesapeake, VA 23320 Work Arrangement: Onsite Duration:: 2+ months (Contract-to-Possible Hire) Schedule: Full-Time | 40 Hours/Week Vaccination Requirements : MMR, Hepatitis B Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Phlebotomist II to join a primary care provider office in an onsite capacity. The ideal candidate will have strong venipuncture skills and experience independently performing blood draws, processing and preparing specimens, and ensuring accurate specimen handling and shipment. This role requires excellent attention to detail, adherence to established laboratory procedures, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced clinical environment. Key Responsibilities Perform venipunctures and collect blood specimens from approximately 20-50 patients per day. Demonstrate proficiency in blood collection using straight needles and butterfly needles. Properly explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process to patients in a clear, courteous, and professional manner. Collect and process various specimens, including blood and other specimens such as urine or fecal samples, as required. Verify physician orders and ensure all specimen collection requirements are followed accurately. Match laboratory requisition forms with the appropriate specimen tubes and verify patient information. Accurately label specimens and ensure all computer-generated labels and test requisitions match the physician's orders. Centrifuge, split, freeze, and prepare specimens according to specific test requirements and established protocols. Package specimens appropriately for transportation and ensure specimens are stored at the required temperature to maintain specimen integrity. Ship specimens to designated laboratory locations in accordance with established procedures. Maintain accurate records, including equipment maintenance and decontamination documentation. Update patient information and maintain accurate documentation in accordance with established procedures. Place supply orders and monitor inventory levels to ensure adequate availability of phlebotomy and clinical supplies. Follow OSHA, DEP, and applicable safety and regulatory requirements. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Answer telephone calls and assist with inquiries, including providing laboratory results when authorized and appropriate. Participate in required departmental and annual training programs. Identify workflow issues, assist with troubleshooting, and make recommendations for improving operational efficiency. Work independently while maintaining a high level of accuracy, professionalism, and patient service. Work Environment Primary care provider office setting. The selected candidate will be expected to work independently and primarily without a dedicated team. Ability to stand for approximately 5 hours per day. No specific clinical specialty experience is required. Required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Phlebotomy education/training or equivalent qualification. Minimum of 6 months of hands-on venipuncture experience in a fast-paced laboratory, hospital, physician office, or clinical setting. Strong knowledge of specimen collection, labeling, processing, centrifugation, and specimen handling procedures. Ability to perform venipunctures using straight and butterfly needles. Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately follow physician orders and laboratory protocols. Basic computer skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite is preferred. Valid state-specific phlebotomy certification, where required by applicable state regulations. Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a primary care or physician office environment. Experience independently managing high-volume patient draws. Strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks effectively. Training 3-day orientation 5 additional days of onsite training Interview Process One round of video conference interview.
