Overview

Carle Health is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our Hospital Medicine team in a dedicated Nocturnist Cross-Cover APP role.

This position is designed for a highly skilled, autonomous clinician who excels in acute inpatient care, clinical decision-making, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

The Nocturnist Cross-Cover APP will work with hospitalist physicians and bedside teams to manage overnight patient needs, identify and respond to clinical deterioration, triage urgent medical concerns, and facilitate timely interventions that promote patient safety and optimal outcomes. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong independent judgment, adaptability in a fast-paced environment, and confidence in managing complex clinical situations.


Opportunity Details

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide overnight cross-cover support for hospitalized patients across designated inpatient units.
  • Identify early signs of patient deterioration and initiate timely interventions to prevent adverse outcomes.
  • Triage and manage urgent and emergent clinical situations in collaboration with physicians and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Respond to nursing concerns, changes in patient condition, and abnormal diagnostic findings
  • Communicate effectively with hospitalist physicians, specialists, nursing staff, patients, and families to coordinate care.

Opportunity Details

  • 12 hour shifts, 7 pm-7am
  • 4 weekend shifts per 4 week blocks
  • 3 holidays per year

Qualifications/Education

  • Master's degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.

Experience

  • Minimum of two years of Advanced Practice Provider experience required.
  • Prior hospital medicine, critical care, emergency medicine, or acute care experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and make sound clinical decisions in high-acuity situations.

Licensure & Certifications

  • Current Illinois NP or PA licensure.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required.
  • Must satisfactorily complete all continuing education including NIH Stroke Scale certification regarding the care of acute stroke patients and DEA eligible

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $60.72 - $78.94/hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
