Primary Function The Junior Radar Technician supports the operation, installation, sustainment, and maintenance of fixed and mobile radar systems in support of Wallops Range missions and worldwide instrumentation sites. This position works under the direction of senior radar engineers and technicians to ensure radar systems are available, functional, and mission-ready in accordance with task orders, work orders, and mission schedules. Essential Duties
Assist in the operation of radar instrumentation in support of Wallops Range missions, tests, and special events. Support installation, checkout, qualification, and sustainment of radar systems and associated subsystems under supervision. Perform routine preventive maintenance, basic troubleshooting, and corrective maintenance on radar systems and components. Assist with installation and qualification of commercially available replacement parts for radar systems. Support simultaneous radar operations for multiple missions as scheduled in task orders and work orders. Assist senior personnel with radar configuration, system setup, and tear-down for fixed and mobile radar assets. Maintain operational readiness of radar systems in accordance with established procedures, safety standards, and technical documentation. Support data collection and assist with preparation of mission reports and quick-look data products as directed. Document maintenance actions, system status, and operational activities in approved logs and reporting systems. Comply with all NASA, Wallops Range, and contractor safety, security, and operational requirements.
Supervisory Responsibilities None Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Basic understanding of radar systems, RF principles, or electronic systems. Ability to follow technical procedures, schematics, and operational checklists. Familiarity with electronic test equipment (e.g., multimeters, oscilloscopes) is preferred. Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately document work performed. Ability to work in a team environment and follow direction from senior technical staff.
Required Qualifications
Associate's degree in Electronics Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field or equivalent military or technical training. Entry-level experience with radar, RF systems, electronics maintenance, or range instrumentation is preferred but not required. Ability to obtain and maintain required site access credentials and certifications. Ability to obtain security clearance if required by task order.
Working Environment Work is performed in a combination of indoor and outdoor environments, including radar sites, instrumentation facilities, and mobile platforms. Duties may require shift work, extended hours, travel, and support of worldwide Wallops Range instrumentation sites. The position involves working around high-power RF equipment and requires strict adherence to safety and RF exposure standards.
