Job Summary

The Data Center Technician I is responsible for supporting the installation, maintenance, and organization of structured cabling systems and data center equipment in mission-critical environments. This entry-level, contract-to-hire position is ideal for individuals with a skilled trade background who are looking to build a career in the data center, telecommunications, or low voltage industry. The role provides hands-on training, mentorship, and opportunities for career growth while supporting national infrastructure projects. Candidates must be willing to work overtime, weekends, and travel as required.

Job Responsibilities




  • Install and support structured cabling infrastructure, including copper and fiber optic cabling.



  • Perform cable management, dressing, labeling, and routing according to industry standards.



  • Terminate copper and fiber optic cables.



  • Rack, stack, and install customer equipment and server cabinets.



  • Assemble server racks and perform rack elevations.



  • Install ladder racks, fiber trays, power trays, cabinets, and other infrastructure components.



  • Receive, organize, and assemble materials and hardware for installation projects.



  • Support Outside Plant (OSP) fiber installations into data center facilities.



  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and installation documentation.



  • Communicate professionally with team members, supervisors, and customers.



  • Follow all safety policies, OSHA guidelines, and proper PPE requirements while maintaining a clean and organized work environment.



  • Perform other duties as assigned.




Job Requirements




  • 0-2 years of experience in data center, telecommunications, low voltage, construction, electrical, HVAC, industrial maintenance, or another skilled trade environment.



  • Must be willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as required.



  • Must be willing and able to travel based on business needs.



  • Entry-level candidates with a skilled trade background are encouraged to apply.



  • Ability to read and follow blueprints and installation documentation.



  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.



  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.



  • Active OSHA 10 certification preferred.



  • Ability to safely work on ladders, scissor lifts, and in confined spaces.



  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and move up to 75 pounds.



  • Proficiency using basic hand tools, including a multi-bit screwdriver, tape measure, snips, needle-nose pliers, channel-lock pliers, punch-down tool, flashlight, work boots (steel toe or composite toe), gloves, and a tool pouch.




Education




  • High school diploma or GED required.
