About the opportunity The Instrument Sales Manager, Molecular Tools & Oncology is responsible for meeting defined automation sales targets within their region. They drive their business by closely working with their colleagues in research and clinical sales manager roles and across other sales specialist channels. They are the expert and can sell across the workflow (sample disruption, extraction, assay set-up, detection through analysis).
- Sales Revenues/Budgets: Meet/exceed sales target for instrumentation/automation within the defined geography. Additionally, meet/exceed sales growth target for associated automated consumables on said platforms.
- Leadership Without Direct Authority: Support the business plans of account managers within the defined geography to ensure strategic alignment of revenue growth. Developing tactical plans to maximize revenues. Ensure timely responses to all account manager and customer requests. Ensure opportunities that enter mid funnel are lead and driven to close.
- Technical Expertise/Organizational Aptitude: Provide at a minimum an intermediate level understanding of all instruments in the portfolio, and work within the organization to effectively provide expert guidance to the customer base from the most suitable resource.
- Planning/Forecasting: To provide quarterly forecasts of instrumentation sales to the Senior Manager, Instrumentation Sales, and to update that forecast on a weekly basis.
- Customer Focus: Maintain and develop relationships with key customers and references. Increase the effectiveness of the account manager team by closing business.
- Information systems: Utilize the CRM database (SFDC) to input and provide information that will increase effectiveness to the customer and aid sales. Maintain operating metrics such as sales call reports tied to opportunities, and opportunity maintenance (periodic updates at a minimum every 21 days).
- Communication: Organization of meetings/communication channels to ensure effective communication across business units. This includes twice monthly market calls with each account manager, timely responses to all account manager and customer requests (within 24 hours), and development of shared task lists to foster joint accountability.
Your profile
- Minimum education: Bachelor of Science or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years sales experience. Proven track record.
- Proven experience of various nucleic acid techniques such as extraction, quality control, PCR/qPCR/dPCR.
- Knowledge of relevant markets within the research and clinical molecular biology space.
Personal requirements
- Travel will involve nationally for meetings and conferences as requested, regionally for day to day routine sales responsibilities. 3-4 days in the field per week is expected.
- Excellent communication skills at all business levels.
- Willingness to travel (Needs to be based near a major airport).
- Territory - Southern California (Ideally based in Los Angeles or San Deigo).
The estimated base salary range for this position is $100,000 - $145,000. Compensation will be based on the candidate's experience, skills, geographic location, and other job-related factors. In addition to base salary, we offer a total compensation package that includes a commission plan and generous benefits.
