Overview

Technical Architect II designs and evolves intelligent workflow and automation solutions in an AI-native development environment. This role combines expertise in application architecture, workflow orchestration, and enterprise platforms with AI-assisted engineering tools (e.g., Claude, Copilot) to accelerate solution design, code generation, and SDLC execution.

The architect will support the Payment BU Workflow Intelligence & Orchestration Initiative, collaborating on client inquiry and payment workflows, while contributing to a Center of Excellence (CoE) for AI-enabled workflow development - delivering scalable, secure, reusable, and AI-augmented solutions while minimizing technical debt and avoiding vendor lock-in.

Responsibilities

Define architectural standards, patterns, and best practices for workflow platforms, including guardrails for AI-assisted development and code generation.
  • Leverage AI tools (Claude, Copilot) to accelerate design, code generation, and documentation, with strong validation and oversight.
  • Design scalable, secure, and maintainable workflow solutions aligned to business needs and AI-driven decisioning.
  • Define AI-assisted development patterns (prompt design, validation, governance) for workflow behavior and generated code.
  • Architect solutions across open-source workflow engines (Temporal.io, Camunda, Flowable, JBPM, Drools) and custom services.
  • Design event-driven and service-based architectures using Java-based ecosystems and modern integration patterns.
  • Contribute to a Workflow CoE, driving governance, reusability, performance, and AI-native standards.
  • Collaborate across product, infrastructure, security, data, and AI teams to integrate AI into workflows and SDLC processes.
  • Support CI/CD, DevSecOps, and cloud-native deployments (OpenShift, AWS), including validation of AI-generated code and workflows.
  • Provide technical leadership, code/design reviews, and enforce engineering rigor in AI-assisted environments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of application architecture experience with enterprise-scale systems.
  • Strong expertise in workflow orchestration, distributed systems, and integration design.
  • Experience with open-source workflow engines (Temporal.io, Camunda, Flowable, JBPM, Drools).
  • Strong development background in Java-based ecosystems and microservices architectures.
  • Experience with databases such as Oracle and PostgreSQL, including performance tuning and optimization.
  • Experience with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and container platforms (OpenShift, Kubernetes, AWS).
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools (Copilot, Claude).
  • Strong knowledge of APIs, security (SSO, RBAC), and scalable system design.
  • Familiarity with Agile practices (SAFe preferred) and strong communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in AI-native SDLC environments.
  • Knowledge of governance for AI-generated code and workflows.
  • Experience designing multi-platform workflow architectures.
  • Background in Healthcare IT or payment integrity systems.

Cognitive / Mental Requirements:

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Able to translate regulatory/clinical requirements into technical solutions and explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset and a track record of driving initiatives from concept to implementation.
  • Leadership and mentorship capabilities are essential - this role will guide teams and represent Cotiviti's interoperability expertise both internally and externally, so the candidate should be comfortable taking initiative, "leading without authority" when required, and mentoring others.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Must be able to provide a dedicated, secure work area.
  • Must be able to provide high-speed internet access/connectivity and office setup and maintenance.

Base compensation ranges from $160,000 to $185,000 per year. Specific offers are determined by various factors, such as experience, education, skills, certifications, and other business needs. This role is eligible for discretionary bonus consideration.

Cotiviti offers team members a competitive benefits package to address a wide range of personal and family needs, including medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance coverage, 401(k) savings plans, paid family leave, 9 paid holidays per year, and 17-27 days of Paid Time Off (PTO) per year, depending on specific level and length of service with Cotiviti. For information about our benefits package, please refer to our Careers page.

This role is based remotely and all interviews will be conducted virtually.
