DESCRIPTION OF WORK
-
This position provides skilled mechanical work to maintain and repair vehicles and equipment used at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home. It requires strong technical ability, attention to detail, and consistent recordkeeping to ensure safe operation. As an Automotive Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:
- Vehicle Repair: Carry out repairs on cars, trucks, tractors, and related equipment
- Preventive Maintenance: Inspect vehicles, complete routine service, and maintain clean and fueled equipment
- Mechanical Diagnostics: Perform tune-ups, replace components, and service cooling, suspension, electrical, and brake systems
- Safety Inspections: Conduct official state inspections, verify compliance, and complete required documentation
- Record Keeping: Maintain logs, work orders, inventories, and maintenance schedules for all assigned equipment
- Emergency Service: Provide roadside assistance, obtain repair estimates, and coordinate outside repair work

- Full-time employment, 7.5 hours per day, 37.5 hours per week
- Work hours are 1st shift (7:00 AM to 3:00 PM), Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Your schedule may change based on operational needs.
- Travel and overtime: As needed
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Four years of experience in the automotive mechanic trade; or
- Completion of an approved apprenticeship; or
- Any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.

- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Preferred Qualifications (not required):
- Willingness to travel to the sites of disabled or damaged state-owned vehicles throughout Pennsylvania.
Legal Requirements:
- A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
- This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
- Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
