The Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Tech and Emory University has a student body of 1,200 undergraduates, 260 graduate students, and 70 primary and 73 program faculty. In 2023 US News Graduate Program Rankings placed the department as the #1 ranked department in BME in the United States and our Undergraduate Program as the # 2 department in the United States. The Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Tech & Emory School of Medicine the invites applications for a Limited Term (1yr) Research Technician. The Technician must work effectively, respectfully, and collaboratively with a diverse range of students, peers, professional administrative staff, faculty, and campus partners.

Job Duty 1 -
Gather, compile and summarize data in conjunction with assigned scientific tests, experiments, etc

Job Duty 2 -
Collect and prepare samples for use in assigned tests

Job Duty 3 -
Prepare statistical analyses and maintain related records.

Job Duty 4 -
Operate various equipment used in research studies.

Job Duty 5 -
Perform other duties as assigned

Educational Requirements
Technical Diploma, Associate's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Experience
One to two years of job related experience

• A BS/MS in neuroscience, biology, engineering, or related fields,
• experience in animal behavior, surgery, wet lab techniques including histology, and MATLAB/Python proficiency.
• Excellent organizational skills are essential.

SKILLS
This job requires basic knowledge of research lab equipment and support processes and practices. Includes skill in data organization, statistical analysis and use of statistical and scientific computer applications.

The Stanley Lab:

Our laboratory uses an array of experimental and computational tools to investigate the neural circuits underlying sensing and decision making, and develops neurotechnologies for interacting with and controlling neural circuits in real time. A major focus is on the mammalian thalamocortical circuit in the context of tactile sensing, decision making, and behavior. Technology development focuses on real-time, optimal closed-loop control strategies using targeted optogenetic manipulation and decoding and controlling brain states. These avenues of foundational and engineering research are being applied to understand and treat Parkinson's disease

Additional Responsibilities:

• conducting mouse behavioral training,
• assisting with fiber photometry and data analysis,
• performing histological analysis, and supporting lab operations.
• Additional responsibilities include lab manager duties.
