ROLE OVERVIEW:

The successful candidate will have a positive, professional demeanor, excellent interpersonal skills and will be able to work independently. The nature of the work will require that the candidate demonstrate initiative and responsibility and be
flexible/adaptive to a fast-paced and fluid business environment. The primary responsibility of this position is to oversee all aspects of the plant manufacturing operations to include; production quotas and analysis, quality control, scheduling of raw materials, equipment trouble shooting, maintenance, inventory control, personnel management and environmental compliance, and the daily management of the ready-mix concrete operations including but not limited to; leadership, safety, environment, operations, quality, efficiency, maintenance, appearance and administration.

DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES (summary of components that make up the job)



  1. Maintain the highest standard of quality and safety in all areas of production from manufacturing to shipment.
  2. Oversee and Manage Safely batching concrete and load trucks according to order specification.
  3. Oversee efficient plant operations related to production and scheduling .
  4. Manage the schedule and performance of production maintenance.
  5. Ensure and maintain proper stock inventories (raw materials, machinery/vehicle parts, etc.).
  6. Supervise hourly personnel & drivers to include; hiring, training, directing, counseling and disciplining employees according to company policy.
  7. Communicate with General Manager and other departments.
  8. Maintain a clean fleet.
  9. Coordinate fleet maintenance with truck shop.
  10. Coordinate plant maintenance.
  11. Perform month-end inventory.
  12. Develop relationships with plant sales reps and customers.
  13. Must be able to run front end loader, when needed.
  14. Required to work a schedule that varies from week to week, including some weekend days
  15. Required to work extended hours and irregular schedules.
  16. Promote and maintain an environmentally compliant and a safety- oriented plant in accordance with all OSHA and company standards. Coordinate and reinforce daily plant inspections, monthly safety meetings, preventive maintenance procedures, the wearing of PPE and monthly fleet and plant inspections.
  17. Maintain and monitor the batching sequence, fleet maintenance and reliability, appearance of the batch office, and plant and yard according to established company procedures.
  18. Batch consistent slump concrete verifies batch weight accuracy and identifies and resolves inventory discrepancies.
  19. Manage costs and utilizes Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to guide production, identify areas for improvement and works with delivery professionals to safely arrive at jobsites in a timely manner.
  20. Other duties may be assigned.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITITES (types and extent of knowledge, skills or abilities an incumbent must possess to complete the job responsibilities satisfactorily)-



  1. Timely and regular attendance is essential.
  2. A working knowledge of the programming functions of all current plant systems .
  3. An understanding of all aspects of concrete production and the types of products produced.
  4. An understanding of quality control/quality assurance for the ready mix concrete industry.
  5. A working knowledge of OSHA/DOT regulations.
  6. A working mechanical knowledge of all plant related equipment.
  7. Knowledge of production equipment, production processes and maintenance programs.
  8. A commitment to team concepts, a sense of ownership and urgency.
  9. Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to deal professionally with all managers, employees, vendors and customers.
  10. Excellent problem-solving skills.
  11. Strong computer skills.
  12. Ability to effectively and consistently communicate constructive feedback , positive reinforcement, provide on-going evaluations and counseling concerns to the team members while implementing company-approved methods and programs.
  13. Capable of climbing conveyor belts and silos up to 70 feet.
  14. Be able to work in all weather conditions for extended period of time.



    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (minimum educational, experience, or other relevant job requirements)



    1. Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and physical.
    2. Must meet Knife River-South employment standards with regards to background/MVR checks.
    3. Must be able to work overtime and be flexible with hours (daytime/nighttime).
    4. Ability to work outside in all seasons.
    5. Must have a "safety first" attitude. Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures is required.
    6. 4 year degree in Engineering, Management is preferred.
    7. 5+ years progressive experience with ready mix concrete production, associated equipment and fleet management.
    8. Must have excellent math, computer, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
