Overview

Electric Boat Department 403 Technical Writing is seeking a motivated individual to join our Reactor Plant Planning Yard team. This team is responsible for the management of Propulsion Plant Technical Manuals under the cognizance of Naval Reactors.

About this Team

Technical Writing researches, writes, and publishes system level and component level technical descriptions and procedures for all submarine classes.

About this Role

A Technical Writer will develop technical products in interactive electronic Technical Manual (IETM) format using state of the art electronic publishing software. Ownership of the product and attention to every detail in all phases of development ensures an efficient and successful program.

Key Responsibilities

Applicant will work closely and coordinate with multiple engineering disciplines, technical illustrators, and department supervision to develop new or revised descriptive chapters, operating procedures, maintenance procedures, and component technical manuals for systems and equipment found onboard nuclear-powered submarines.

Applicant must learn to read and interpret fluid and electrical system diagrams, ship construction drawings, equipment drawings, and vendor equipment operating manuals.



Qualifications

Required Qualifications

    Military or submarine operational experience or Bachelor's Degree or 4 years of other writing experience
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional writing experience
  • Technical or writing degree
  • Qualified in Submarines
  • Experience in electronic publishing (Extensible Markup Language, Standard General Markup Language, or equivalent)
  • Experience reading and interpreting Technical Drawings

  • Previous Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program Experience
