Responsibilities

This position reports to the Manager, Quality and Regulartory Affairs and works with all Blood Center operating departments to ensure calibrations and equipment repairs are carried out according to regulations set by FDA, AABB and other accrediting agencies that audit RIBC. This position is key to ensuring consistent documentation of repairs to critical equipment used in the collection, processing and storage of blood products. In addition the Bio Med Technician is responsible for developing and tracking the assets of all operating departments and maintaining the central temperature monitoring system.

    Establishes and maintains Asset management program for blood center equipment from initial purchase to decommissioning.
  • Maintains legible, accurate and complete documentation for all maintenance work.
  • Responsible for the general maintenance and repair of assigned blood center equipment.
  • Performs repairs, preventive maintenance and installation of equipment.
  • Orders spare or replacement parts for equipment.
  • Recommends repair or replacement to Department Director.
  • Ships equipment back to vendors for repair if necessary.
  • Assists in Installation Qualification portion of validation projects as assigned.
  • Ensures equipment electrical safety standards are met on an annual basis for donor service, laboratory services, hospital services and Clinical services equipment.
  • Works with Manager, Quality and Regulartory Affairs to set up routine maintenance schedules for newly acquired equipment.
  • Works with Manager, Quality and Regulartory Affairs to write procedures and develop consistent reporting format.
  • Schedules calibration services for calibration equipment used at RIBC.
  • Schedules vendor calibrations and organizes equipment to optimize the calibration service time.
  • Maintains copies of all equipment operator manuals and calibration certificates.
  • Follow the policies of the Rhode Island Blood Center.
  • Maintaining professional ethics concerning confidentiality of donor information.
  • Assist in procedure writing or validation for newly acquired equipment.


Qualifications

Education:

Associate degree in Electrical Technology or related field. Significant experience in a related field in lieu of educational requirements will be taken into consideration.

Qualifications:

Prior experience in a GMP environment

Must be able to lift and or move up to 55 pound weights used for equipment calibration

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

Data entry skills required

The proposed hourly rate for this positions is $27.66 - $31.11 per hour.
