Job Summary

The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for supporting flight test instrumentation and aircraft modification activities through the design, integration, and installation of mechanical systems, instrumentation equipment, and harness routing solutions. This role develops engineering documentation, supports airworthiness requirements, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure successful implementation of flight test hardware and data acquisition systems. The ideal candidate will have aerospace design experience, strong proficiency with CATIA V5, and experience creating detailed mechanical designs in a regulated engineering environment.

Job Responsibilities



  • Develop mechanical designs and installation solutions for flight test instrumentation equipment, data acquisition systems, and associated aircraft modifications.
  • Perform mechanical design and harness routing activities for aircraft instrumentation installations.
  • Create, revise, and release engineering drawings, models, and technical documentation.
  • Develop and maintain work instructions supporting fabrication, installation, and modification activities.
  • Support airworthiness documentation and engineering compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and flight test teams to ensure successful integration of instrumentation systems.
  • Monitor fabrication and installation activities to verify compliance with engineering requirements.
  • Provide technical support during aircraft modification, assembly, testing, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Review design packages for accuracy, manufacturability, and compliance with engineering standards.
  • Participate in design reviews and technical evaluations.
  • Support configuration management and engineering change processes.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable aerospace, safety, and quality standards.
  • Perform additional engineering duties as assigned.


Job Requirements



  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of CATIA V5 experience.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of 2D and 3D mechanical design experience within an aerospace environment.
  • Experience designing mechanical systems, assemblies, and installation solutions.
  • Experience creating and releasing engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Knowledge of engineering design principles, manufacturing processes, and configuration management practices.
  • Ability to interpret engineering specifications, technical requirements, and design standards.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary engineering environment.
  • Active Secret Security Clearance required.


Education



  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or a related engineering field required.


Work Experience



  • 3-5 years of aerospace mechanical design experience required.
  • 3-5 years of CATIA V5 design experience required.
  • Experience supporting flight test instrumentation, data acquisition systems, or aircraft modification programs preferred.
  • Experience with instrumentation systems, including flight test or ground test applications, preferred.
  • Experience with military aircraft programs preferred.
  • Experience supporting fabrication, installation, and aircraft integration activities preferred.
  • Familiarity with aerospace engineering documentation, airworthiness requirements, and engineering release processes preferred.
