Presbyterian is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to support infection control, quality assurance, and departmental procedures through the cleaning, disinfecting, assembling, and sterilizing of surgical instruments and reusable medical equipment for inpatient departments and PMG clinics. Responsibilities also include inventory management, restocking, and distribution of instruments to support Operating Room services. Responsibilities: Infection Control & Standard Precautions
- Adhere to hand hygiene requirements, workflow patterns, standard precautions, sterility assurance procedures, biological monitoring, and departmental dress code.
- Maintain compliance with infection prevention and control standards.
Quality Assurance Monitoring
- Validate and maintain event-related protocols, sterilization/disinfection load parameters, inventory check sheets, and equipment monitoring records.
- Process instrumentation according to manufacturer instructions for use (IFU).
Documentation & Regulatory Compliance
- Maintain accurate documentation for sterilization, high-level disinfection, biological monitoring, and employee competencies.
- Ensure daily QA and sterilization records comply with regulatory and Infection Control standards.
Policies & Procedures
- Follow organizational and departmental policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines.
Decontamination & Instrument Processing
- Properly don and doff required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Inspect, disassemble, sort, clean, and process reusable instruments and equipment.
- Operate specialized cleaning equipment and follow manufacturer recommendations for cleaning agents.
Instrument Assembly
- Identify, inspect, and assemble general and specialty surgical instruments, power equipment, laser devices, and endoscopic instruments according to specifications and manufacturer guidelines.
Preparation & Packaging
- Select and prepare appropriate packaging materials for sterilization of reusable instrumentation in accordance with manufacturer instructions.
Sterilization Procedures
- Select appropriate sterilization methods based on instrumentation requirements.
- Properly load and unload sterilizers and verify sterilization parameters before distribution.
- Maintain accurate sterilization records and documentation.
Workplace Safety
- Maintain awareness of personal and workplace safety standards at all times.
- Comply with facility safety policies related to bloodborne pathogens and communicable diseases.
- Report and/or correct identified hazards promptly.
Professionalism & Teamwork
- Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Support teamwork and collaboration within the department.
- Maintain accountability, professionalism, and strong work ethics.
- Adhere to posted work schedules and complete additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required
- One year experience in sterile processing environment, hospital or clinic (medical or veterinary) preferred.
- Previous experience with handling of sterile supplies and/or instruments preferred.
