Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Commercial Lead AV Technician to oversee the installation, configuration, commissioning, and troubleshooting of professional audio-visual systems within commercial new-construction environments. This role is responsible for leading field installation teams, maintaining quality standards, coordinating with project stakeholders, and ensuring successful delivery of fully integrated AV solutions. The ideal candidate has strong experience with commercial AV infrastructure, control systems, DSP platforms, low-voltage cabling, and system commissioning, along with the leadership skills necessary to mentor technicians and drive project success. Job Responsibilities
Lead and supervise field installation crews on commercial AV projects, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to project specifications.
Install, configure, and commission commercial AV systems, including displays, projectors, microphones, amplifiers, DSPs, sound masking systems, and integrated control platforms.
Program, test, and troubleshoot AV control systems and DSP platforms, including Crestron, Extron, Biamp, Q-SYS, and AMX environments.
Build, wire, label, and organize equipment racks while maintaining industry-standard cable management practices.
Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot low-voltage cabling, including CAT5e, CAT6, coax, RG6, HD-SDI, SDI, XLR, RCA, and 18/2 cable types.
Install and maintain cable pathways, including J-hooks, D-rings, ladder racks, and other cable support systems.
Perform system commissioning activities, including device bring-up, DSP tuning, control system verification, and final acceptance testing.
Diagnose and resolve technical issues involving audio, video, control, networking, and integrated AV systems.
Read, interpret, and execute work based on blueprints, schematics, riser diagrams, and project documentation.
Coordinate daily activities with project managers, engineers, clients, and other construction trades.
Maintain accurate installation documentation and communicate project progress and site conditions.
Mentor and train junior technicians while promoting adherence to quality and safety standards.
Ensure all installations comply with applicable industry standards, site requirements, and safety protocols.
Job Requirements
High School Diploma or GED required.
Associate degree or technical training in Audio Visual Technology, Electronics, Information Technology, or a related field preferred.
Minimum of 3 years of commercial AV installation experience.
Minimum of 1 year of experience leading or supervising AV installation teams.
Demonstrated experience in commercial new-construction environments.
Hands-on experience with Crestron, Extron, Biamp, Q-SYS, AMX, and Dante technologies.
Strong knowledge of AV signal flow, AV networking, integrated control systems, and DSP functionality.
Experience building and wiring AV equipment racks with professional labeling and cable management practices.
Proficiency terminating and testing low-voltage cabling, including CAT5e, CAT6, coax, RG6, HD-SDI, SDI, XLR, RCA, and 18/2 cabling.
Ability to install cable pathways and support systems, including J-hooks, D-rings, and ladder racks.
Experience commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting integrated AV systems.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, riser diagrams, and technical documentation.
Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Avixa CTS certification required; CTS-I or CTS-D strongly preferred.
OSHA-10 or OSHA-30 certification preferred.
Must provide personal basic hand tools, including screwdrivers, tape measures, snips, pliers, punch-down tools, crimpers, and similar installation tools.
Ability to work on ladders, lifts, and in confined spaces.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.
Ability to work a schedule beginning at 7:00 AM and maintain approximately 40-45 hours per week.
Work Experience
Experience leading commercial AV installation crews in new-construction environments.
Experience installing and integrating commercial AV systems, including displays, projectors, DSPs, amplifiers, microphones, and control systems.
Experience with rack construction, wiring, cable management, and infrastructure deployment.
Experience performing system commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, and final system verification.
Experience coordinating with project managers, engineers, general contractors, and other trades on active construction sites.
