United States, Pennsylvania, King of Prussia
Jun 05, 2026
Responsibilities

One of the nation's largest and most respected providers of hospital and healthcare services, Universal Health Services, Inc. (NYSE: UHS) has built an impressive record of achievement and performance. Growing steadily since its inception into an esteemed Fortune 300 corporation, annual revenues were $17.4 billion in 2025. During the year, UHS was again recognized as one of the World's Most Admired Companies by Fortune; and listed in Forbes ranking of America's Largest Public Companies. Headquartered in King of Prussia, PA, UHS has approximately 101,500 employees and continues to grow through its subsidiaries. Operating acute care hospitals, behavioral health facilities, outpatient facilities and ambulatory care access points, an insurance offering, a physician network and various related services located all over the U.S. States, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the United Kingdom.
The UHS strategy is to build or purchase healthcare properties in rapidly growing markets and create a strong franchise based on exceptional service and effective cost control. UHS owes its success to a responsive management style and to a service philosophy that is based on integrity, competence and compassion.
The healthcare industry remains a place of rapid change and uncertainty. But with strength, experience and foresight to chart its own course, UHS has every reason to face the future with optimism.

Behavioral Health Division:
UHS is the largest facility-based behavioral health provider in the United States, providing patients and their families with specialized care. Since UHS entered the behavioral health industry in 1983, the number of individuals treated has grown significantly as the platform has expanded. Today, UHS treats more than 700,000 behavioral health patients annually. The behavioral health footprint spans 40 states, the United Kingdom, and Puerto Rico with over 300 facilities.

Healthcare institutions of all sizes and affiliations are experiencing a significant rise in demand for behavioral health services and are looking for new care delivery models and population health initiatives to better integrate physical and mental health care. Because the demand for behavioral health services is likely to continue to exceed capacity, improving integration of care will be vital to meeting the growing need for services. UHS, with its clinical resources and geographic reach, is well positioned to develop mutually beneficial partnerships with other healthcare systems to provide high quality, cost-effective behavioral healthcare that is clinically integrated, outcomes driven and delivers measurable value to patients and the healthcare system as a whole.

In March of 2026, UHS entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Talkspace, Inc., a leading behavioral healthcare company offering virtual outpatient services, with a network of approximately 6,000 licensed professionals available to more than 200 million covered individuals. This acquisition will further UHS' core growth objectives by accelerating outpatient and telehealth behavioral health strategies, diversifying payor mix and delivering a comprehensive, technology-enabled continuum of care that supports innovative, highly accessible approaches to mental health services.

The UHS Behavioral Health Division is committed to successful long-term partnerships that improve access to behavioral health services in local communities and improve outcomes for patients and their families. The Division has a number of successful integration partnerships around the country that include working with medical systems and hospitals in a variety of ways, including:

  • Joint venture Behavioral Hospitals
  • Inpatient psychiatric services on an acute care campus
  • The acquisition of an acute care hospital's behavioral health operations
  • Management of psychiatric services in existing emergency departments
  • Mobile assessments
  • Telemedicine
  • Managed units

UHS offers a number of specialty service lines, including substance use disorder treatment, eating disorder treatment, autism spectrum disorder services, and child & adolescent residential services. Supporting the mental health of military personnel - including service members, veterans, first responders and their families - UHS proudly demonstrates its commitment through its Patriot Support Programs, which treated over 17,500 individuals in 2025. UHS is proud to offer this program as a national network of currently 28 behavioral treatment centers across 20 states dedicated to treating active military, veterans and their families to help them cope with the emotional and psychological effects of combat and related triggers.

UHS also has been successful expanding internationally and now owns and operates 161 facilities in the U.K. through its subsidiary Cygnet, a leading provider of mental health and social care services for adults and children. Cygnet's network of award-winning hospitals and community-based services support nearly 9,000 individuals each year across 163 services.
