Position Overview
The Geology Department invites qualified scholars and professionals to apply for part-time to full-time positions for the instruction of face-to-face courses. The Instructor is an instructional, adjunct faculty position that is not eligible for tenure or promotion in rank. This is a term appointment for Fall 2026. Renewal will be based upon unit needs and funding, as well as performance that meets expectations, not to exceed two continuous semesters.

This position is subject to a collective bargaining agreement between The University of Kansas and United Academics, that UAKU is the exclusive representative for the bargaining unit, and that it is their right to be a member or not be a member of a union without fear of personal or professional repercussions.

The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S. prior to the start date of the position.

Job Description
100% Instructional Duties
  • As an instructor for the university, primary duties and responsibilities include: teaching in a specific field, developing course materials, developing and managing syllabi, creating lectures and assignments, grading student work, advising students, and holding office hours.
  • Prepare for and attend all class meetings. In case of absence, the instructor must make arrangements for a substitute to teach the class. Classes should not be canceled.
  • Provide instruction throughout the semester, usually 2.5 hours/week. For field courses, provide 40 contact hours per week.
  • Develop assignments, administer tests, evaluate student work, provide feedback to students, and assign grades.
  • Hold regular office hours for students involved in classes taught, if appropriate.
  • Adhere to departmental, college, and university policies

Required Qualifications
Evaluation of the following requirements will be made through (1) descriptions of work experience and educational experiences in the letter of application, (2) record of accomplishments and productivity addressed in the CV, and (3) information provided from professional references if requested.
  1. Ph.D. in Geology, Environmental Studies, Ecology, or a related field, and evidence of research productivity in the field of specialization.
  2. Previous teaching experience (classroom or online) at the university/college level.
