Objective:

To provide current college students the opportunity to gain hands-on research and development experience in the corporate medical device setting. Interns will be paired with a current member of R&D and will provide engineering support in the phases of device prototyping, test method development, characterization, and design verification testing. Interns will also have the opportunity to network with industry professionals and attend events aimed at furthering their knowledge.

Responsibilities:

1. Investigate and evaluate innovative medical devices:



  • Perform marketing and technical literature surveys to identify the current state of the art in multiple surgical disciplines
  • Contribute to the design ideation of new medical devices and components
  • Support computational and simulation models of device components for device characterization


2. Develop experimental testing strategies, protocols, and systems:



  • Define testing strategies to advance the understanding of current concepts
  • Author protocols for the characterization of device components


3. Construct test setups and systems to be used for design verification testing of device components

Qualifications:



  • Currently enrolled as a full-time engineering student, preferably with an interest or background in life sciences and medical device development
  • Previous research experience is highly desired
  • Junior or Senior in good academic standing
  • Ability to work 16-24 hours/week
  • Interest in a career in the medical device industry
  • Ideal candidates must be organized, hardworking, self-motivated, enthusiastic, and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
