Senior Accountant


Summary


We are seeking an experienced accounting professional with a strong foundation in corporate accounting, general ledger activities, and financial reporting to support both corporate and plant accounting functions in a permanent, fully remote role reporting directly to the Senior Accounting Manager.


This role will play a critical part in core accounting activities, including general ledger accounting, journal entries, account reconciliations, month-end close, audit support, and financial reporting, while also contributing to plant accounting support, systems optimization, and process improvement initiatives.


The ideal candidate is a self-starter and critical thinker who thrives in a fast-paced environment, works well independently, and can collaborate cross-functionally to solve accounting, operational, and systems-related challenges. This individual should possess strong technical accounting knowledge, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. This individual should also be comfortable leveraging systems, automation, and AI-enabled tools to improve accounting processes, strengthen reporting efficiency, and support continuous process improvement.

Principal Responsibilities/Key Results Areas


Corporate Accounting & Financial Reporting



  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes across general ledger and corporate accounting activities
  • Prepare and review journal entries, supporting schedules, general ledger activity, and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements, supporting disclosures, and related reporting deliverables in accordance with GAAP


  • Support multiple annual financial statement audits, including preparation of audit schedules and coordination with external auditors
  • Assist with internal controls, compliance activities, and accounting process improvements
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial reporting deliverables


Systems & Process Improvement



  • Utilize NetSuite ERP to support accounting operations and financial reporting activities
  • Assist with the transition from legacy billing platforms to integrated NetSuite billing solutions
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies between billing systems, operational data, and financial records
  • Partner cross-functionally with operations, billing, and finance teams to identify inefficiencies and implement practical process improvements
  • Support automation initiatives and continuous improvement efforts related to accounting workflows and reporting
  • Assist with system testing, validation, and implementation support as needed


Plant & Operational Accounting



  • Prepare and analyze revenue recognition activities related to CHP plant operations, including chilled water and steam production
  • Record and review monthly accruals related to fuel, maintenance, utilities, and other operational expenses
  • Perform account reconciliations and detailed variance analysis
  • Partner closely with operations personnel to ensure accurate financial reporting tied to production and billing activities
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities for operational business units
  • Analyze operational and financial data to identify discrepancies, trends, and improvement opportunities
  • Support operational reporting and ad hoc financial analysis requests



Requirements


Experience and Education





    • Bachelor's degree in accounting
    • Minimum of 4 years of progressive accounting experience, including strong corporate accounting, general ledger, or financial reporting experience
    • Strong understanding of accrual accounting and revenue recognition principles
    • Strong technology aptitude with experience leveraging accounting systems, automation, and process improvement tools to increase efficiency and reporting accuracy
    • Experience supporting month-end close, general ledger accounting, and financial reporting processes
    • Experience supporting external audit requests and audit preparation
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment
    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
    • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and standard accounting software applications





Preferred





    • Experience in energy, utilities, manufacturing, industrial operations, or infrastructure-related industries
    • Experience supporting plant accounting, cost accounting, or operational accounting environments
    • NetSuite ERP experience strongly preferred
    • Experience with billing systems integrations or system implementations
    • Familiarity with GAAP financial reporting requirements
    • Experience supporting process improvement, automation initiatives, system implementations, or accounting workflow optimization
    • Prior experience collaborating with cross-functional operational teams
