The Bloom lab (https://jbloomlab.org/) at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is hiring a Research Technician III/IV. The Bloom lab currently consists of 18 students, postdocs, and staff scientists who study the evolution of viral proteins. The individual hired into this role will spend about half of their time on tasks related to lab maintenance and organization, and the other half of their time on experimental research related to viral evolution. The goal of this position is to advance the overall research of the Bloom lab by supporting high-level functioning of the lab, collaborating with existing lab members on both organizational and scientific tasks as the needs arise, and performing experimental research either independently or together with other lab members as appropriate.

Responsibilities

    Planning and implementing organizational systems for the lab (eg, sample storage, freezer organization, etc).
  • Maintenance of key equipment.
  • Contributing to ordering in collaboration with the lab's research administrator and existing research technician.
  • Managing a system for distributing routine lab maintenance duties among all lab members.
  • Experimental research related to viral evolution.
  • Close collaboration with other lab members to support key projects.
  • Analysis of data and presentation of results at regularly scheduled group meetings.
  • Working closely with the lab's PI to ensure smooth functioning of the lab.


Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Research Technician III:

  • Bachelor's degree in related scientific field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5 years of experience working in a lab outside of school coursework (or equivalent combination of advanced degree and work experience)

Research Technician IV:

  • Bachelor's degree in related scientific field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 8 years of related work experience (or equivalent combination of advanced degree and work experience)
  • Proven ability and knowledge necessary to conduct research independently

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MS, or PhD in biology or a related field. We will consider applicants with any of these degrees as the practical experience is more important than the conferred degree for this position.

Research Technician III: The annual base salary range for this position is from $80,172 to $104,249, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
Research Technician IV: The annual base salary range for this position is from $80,475 to $120,682, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.

Although Fred Hutch is not sponsoring most H-1B visas at this time, candidates who already hold an H-1B sponsored by another organization and are currently in the U.S. may be eligible for this position.

This position may be eligible for relocation assistance.
