Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent plus 10 years of professional experience to include 3 years of supervisory experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in a discipline aligned with major contemporary challenges (earth systems, energy, AI/comp sci, health/disease, agriculture/food, water, etc.)
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
  • Pre-Award project management experience
  • Advanced data management and experience using data to inform decision making

Position Summary
This is a highly responsible professional position providing project management expertise for the UGA Office of Research "strategic research growth" ( SRG) initiatives. The project manager will serve as a primary liaison for SRG initiatives, supporting project management functions across collaborating units (e.g., Provost's office, School/College Dean's offices, Graduate School, Innovation Gateway, and the Office of Research). The position will also provide project management support for large externally funded research programs, from project development through execution, and work closely with the Office for Strategic Research Development ( OSRD) and Sponsored Projects Administration ( SPA).
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Project management and/or Program Coordination experience in an academic environment.
  • Federal Agency Grant or Contract Project Management and/or Program Coordination experience.
  • Hold or be willing to seek Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the methods, procedures, and techniques used in grant preparation, coordination, and implementation at an academic institution.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with university personnel, state and federal agencies, and private organizations.
  • Ability to lead as well as work as a team member with all project partners and staff.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Exceptional organization skills with an ability to multitask.
  • Strong customer service orientation and commitment.
  • Exhibit a very high level of initiative.
  • Ability to work independently and with multiple partners and stakeholders in a deadline-oriented environment.
  • Experience assigning tasks and monitoring progress to meet project needs and deadlines.
  • Ability to participate in the evaluation and analysis of existing approaches and procedures and to assist in devising new approaches.

Duties/Responsibilities


Duties/Responsibilities
Provide project management and coordination for Strategic Research Growth Initiatives and programs addressing team formation and development, team training, and large integrative project planning, management, and launch. Duties include the following:

  • Management and coordination support for team training programs.
  • Project management and coordination support for the Major Integrative Proposal Planning (MIPP) Program in coordination with OSRD, including organization of internal and external teams and completion of pink and red reviews for designated integrative proposals.
  • Project management for the Research Training Support (RTS) Group.
  • Project management for new UGA research initiatives and externally funded major programs through their launch phase, including Office of Research Centers, Institutes, and Initiatives.

Duties/Responsibilities
Provide project management support for large proposal projects, working in close coordination with OSRD. Duties include the following:

  • Independently research existing information about large integrative grant programs, sponsors, agencies, and potential collaborators (research intelligence). Use this information to strategize regarding development of individual proposals.
  • Create project plans with timelines and checklists for proposal submission and document creation for major grant proposals in coordination with OSRD and ensure faculty team adherence.
  • Create meeting agendas. Lead and facilitate meetings of between 5-20 faculty member(s), depending on size of proposal.
  • Work with PI to develop and implement proposal strategy; lead the proposal team in accordance with this strategy throughout the proposal development process to ensure cohesiveness of proposal vision and competitiveness of proposal.
