What to Expect
The Controls Engineer for the Remanufacturing team will commission, troubleshoot, and program automated equipment systems, robot applications, conveyor systems, vision systems, and process/equipmentmonitoringcomponents. This role will collaborate with the maintenance team toidentify, fix, and improve equipment andcontrols-related failures.
What You'll Do
- Lead controls commissioning efforts for manufacturing lines, supporting the maintenance team in troubleshooting complex breakdowns and chronic equipment failures related to control systems
- Implement and manage continuous process optimization by integrating advanced and conventional technologies to improve quality, productivity, and reduce waste
- Maintain and program state machines for complex processes involving conveyor processing, multi-station parallel processing, and data acquisition
- Oversee controls-related activities in the production shop, leading and supporting production and maintenance teams on all controls-related topics and issues
- Use complex electrical schematics and blueprints to troubleshoot and resolve problems
- Develop andmaintainIgnition projects and gateways, including scripting API calls to web applications, managing database connections and named queries, and configuring OPC device connections
- Develop andmaintaindocumentation for all electrical equipment and associated procedures, updating it as required by modifications
- Identify weak areas of production systems using root cause analysis and firstprinciplesthinking, implementing effective countermeasures through available resources
- Implement and enforce Tesla equipment safety standards into manufacturing equipment, including conducting periodic checks and qualification inspections
- Understand and program using multiple programming styles, including ladder logic and structured text
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Electrical,Mechatronics,Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 7+ years of hands-on experience as a Controls Engineer or Applications Engineer working on automation and/or electromechanical systems
- Proficiencyin PLCs (Siemens TIA Portal, Allen Bradley ControlLogix, Omron, or Beckhoff TwinCAT)
- Experience with Safety PLCs (Allen Bradley ControlLogix, SIMATIC Safety Integrated, or BeckhoffTwinSAFE)
- Expertisein Human Machine Interfaces (HMI/GUI - Ignition, Studio 5000 View Designer, SIMATIC WinCC (TIA Portal), or TwinCAT HMI)
- Familiarity with field bus networks (Ethernet IP, PROFINET,EtherCAT)
- Proficiencyin reading electrical prints and understanding industrial equipment standards
- Strong skills in process integration and electromechanical/mechatronic systems
- Familiarity with Cartesian, SCARA, and Articulated robots (Fanuc, Kuka,Motoman, Epson) is a plus
- Ability to thrive in ambiguous environments, take initiative, and deliver results with minimal supervision
