The Network Architect provides expert level technical expertise and technical leadership in all areas of UCDH Network. Recognized as an organization wide expert, the Network Architect has significant impact and influence on organizational policy and program development. The Network Architect regularly leads projects of critical importance to the organization; these projects carry substantial consequences of success or failure. The Network Architect directs programs with organization-wide impact that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources.
The Network Architect has wide-ranging experience, applies communications industry practices and relevant policies, procedures and objectives to plan and architect large-scale local and wide-area networks and to resolve issues up to and including the most complex, with impact institution wide at the regional network and beyond. The Network Architect works on issues with little or no UCDH precedent. The network architect is considered a subject matter expert on UCDH and is often recognized as an expert externally in the industry.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
- Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
- 8-12 years progressively responsible experience in enterprise networking with a broad range of networking technologies, including route/switch, load balancing, network design, advanced troubleshooting, etc.
- Experience successfully applying protocols to independently solve networking problems, up to and including the most complex.
- Experience and ability to represent the operational and strategic interests of a complex organization to communities interested in using, providing services to or interconnecting with campus/medical center/OP networking services.
- Expert knowledge of professional communications concepts in the completion of complex and diverse assignments.
- Expert knowledge of the principles and practices within the field.
- Demonstrated ability to apply highly developed technical skills and knowledge to improve the effectiveness of the function.
- Expert understanding of core networking protocols including a thorough understanding of all OSI layers.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate to all levels within the technical, academic and management community at the campus/medical center/OP and relevant external organizations.
- Understands implications of work on other areas.
- Clearly understands the communications and network needs of the organization and has skills needed to address those needs.
- In-depth, advanced understanding of various network hardware platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze highly complex communication hardware and software systems for maintaining a real-time resource that impacts campus/medical center/OP-wide network users.
- Expert knowledge and experience working with network management systems.
- Ability to gather, organize and analyze data in the completion of a variety of functional assignments.
- Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines. Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated expert problem-solving skills for the most complex situations.

- A current CCIE certification is preferred.

Work Environment
UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
