Intern Technology and Innovation

The job responsibilities outlined in this document are not exhaustive and may evolve over time and be reviewed according to business needs.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

The primary purpose of this role is to support the development and validation of advanced 5G systems through hands on laboratory testing, measurement, and simulation activities. By working closely with senior engineers, the role contributes to component level and end to end system performance evaluation using antennas, transmitters, receivers, and power amplifiers. This position adds value by ensuring accurate testing, analysis, and optimization of 5G waveforms and architectures. Its unique contribution is combining practical lab measurements with MATLAB based modeling and neural network optimization to improve system performance and reliability.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Overall Responsibility Summary:
This role is responsible for executing laboratory experimentation, simulation, and performance evaluation of wireless communication systems in support of 5G research and development. The position functions as an individual contributor, working under general technical guidance from senior engineers while independently conducting tests, analyzing results, and documenting outcomes within established engineering standards.

Laboratory System Setup and Experimental Testing (35%)
Set up and configure wireless communication systems in a laboratory environment using antennas, transmitters, receivers, power amplifiers, and 5G waveforms. Conduct multiple controlled experiments to evaluate system performance and behavior under defined test conditions. Work closely with senior engineers during test execution to ensure accurate and reliable results. Maintain existing testbeds, including tracking configuration changes, managing system updates, and ensuring accurate documentation. Execute calibration programs to sustain the performance and accuracy of our test equipment, including spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, RF generators, baseband systems, and supporting infrastructure such as servers and network devices.

Performance Measurement and KPI Analysis (25%)
Measure, analyze, and document the output of laboratory experiments, including key performance indicators (KPIs). Evaluate metrics such as Error Vector Magnitude (EVM), Block Error Rate (BLER), and Adjacent Channel Leakage Ratio (ACLR). Identify performance trends and deviations to support technical assessment and system improvement efforts.

Simulation and Modeling of Wireless Systems (25%)
Conduct simulation and modeling activities using MATLAB and/or Google Colab to evaluate wireless system performance. Systematically vary multiple parameters to assess system robustness, efficiency, and trade offs. Collaborate with senior engineers to support optimization of neural network based models using 5G waveforms.

Documentation and Communication of Results (15%)
Document the outcomes of laboratory experiments and simulation efforts in clear, structured technical reports. Summarize methodologies, assumptions, results, and conclusions to support engineering reviews and decision making. Communicate findings and recommendations effectively to senior engineering staff.

COMPETENCIES

Analytical and Problem Solving Skills
Ability to break down complex engineering problems into manageable components and apply structured approaches to develop effective solutions.
Critical Thinking
Ability to evaluate multiple technical solutions, assess trade offs, and make sound recommendations based on data, constraints, and performance objectives.
Technical Communication
Ability to explain technical concepts clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, to support collaboration and informed decision making.
Teamwork and Collaboration
Ability to work effectively within laboratory environments and project teams, contributing constructively while incorporating guidance and feedback from others.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

* Education:
Third or fourth year university student majoring in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
* Technical Knowledge:
Familiarity with wireless communication engineering concepts and principles.
* Tools and Technologies:
Familiarity with MATLAB and Google Colab software tools for simulation and analysis.
Basic familiarity with neural network and machine learning technologies.
* Practical Interest and Aptitude:
Demonstrated interest in conducting measurement and testing activities in laboratory settings.

OTHER KEY REQUIREMENTS / COMMENTS

This role is evaluated based on the accuracy and completeness of laboratory measurements, quality of simulation and modeling outputs, and clarity of technical documentation, with emphasis on timely completion of assigned tasks. The position works closely with senior engineers and laboratory teams and may interface with related engineering or research groups as needed. Assignments support ongoing wireless communication and 5G research projects and require hands on laboratory work, use of simulation tools, and adherence to safety and data standards. The role also provides learning and development opportunities through practical, mentored engineering experience.
