Department Overview
Operations Support is dedicated to creating cross-commodity consistency and standards in Operations. The team provides support services guided by best practices and a relentless pursuit for improvement. It has single points of accountability for Work Management & Resource Planning, Execution Support, Business Operations & Process Improvement, Client's Academy, and Enterprise Public Works. Operations Support is comprised of approximately 1,000 coworkers.
The Benchmarking & Analytics team supports Client's Gas & Electric operations by enabling, facilitating and promoting the use of data-driven analysis, benchmarks and best practices to drive situation awareness, continuous improvement and Industry-leading performance.
The team uses research and data analytics to support operational performance improvement and employs a three-step methodology to:
- Help operational teams establish their baseline performance and determine gaps in performance and/or processes
- Identify top performers and research and document best practices related to those gaps
- Support operations diagnose under-performance and help develop, communicate and track effective and sustainable solutions to close performance gaps
Position Summary
- The Electric Program Manager, Expert integrates themselves with the company line of business in Electric Operations to focus on continuous improvement and management to move the utility to leading performance. He/She manages and/or monitors major programs, process improvement initiatives or benchmarking studies. The incumbent provides oversight, governance, communication, reporting as well as overall process and project management for the assigned program, initiative or study.
- This is a tactical function that balances the Principal Electric lead who leads an overall strategy for Electric Benchmarking. The Expert supports that with insights, data, industry learnings from the industry. The Expert also leads multiple work requests from Electric leadership, engages to solve problems via benchmarking with utility partners, maximizes ROI from industry groups Client participates in and ensures Client has a strong participation in and around the industry. This role program manages multiple lists of contacts, learnings, program plans in our BRIDGE Platform. Finally, the role is a primary point of contact for other utliities who want to initiate benchmarking with Client.
Job Responsibilities:
- Utilizing data-driven methods, drives line of business (LOB) benchmarking and best practice efforts which enable decision making leading to strategies that are better integrated with and support business objectives.
- Primary point of contact for Client electric or gas business with all outside utilities and utility consultants for providing best practices. Primary point of contact for external utilities seeking benchmarking / best practices information for Client electric or gas utility.
- Acts as a thought leader representing Client at industry benchmarking conferences with other utility companies.
- Manages the Electric portfolio of learnings, contacts, lessons learned, etc. in the Benchmarking portal (BRIDGE)
- Develops frequent industry forums, leads problem solving meetings, facilitates discussions with other utilities, provides benchmarking guidance to Client leaders, etc.
Qualifications
Minimum:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent experience in Electric Operations
- 7 years' total related experience
- Experience managing capital expense budgets or projects and programs
Desired:
- PMP Certification
- LSS-Lean Six Sigma (Black, Green or Yellow Belt) certification
- In depth knowledge of electric utility processes, regulatory requirements, critical success factors, goals and initiatives.
- Team leadership and collaboration skills.
- General financial management & budgeting skills and business acumen
- Strong communication, interpersonal, influence skills. Basic negotiation skills.
