If you're a creative storyteller who thrives at the intersection of community, content, and digital strategy, the City of Corona is looking for you. Under general supervision, the Social Media Specialist plays a key role in shaping how the City connects with its residents-bringing programs, services, and stories to life across digital platforms. This is more than posting updates; it's about building meaningful, two-way conversations with the community, creating engaging campaigns, and ensuring the City's voice is consistent, approachable, and impactful. In this role, you'll develop and execute strategic social media initiatives, craft compelling visual and written content, and analyze performance to continuously improve engagement. From capturing live moments at community events to designing graphics and managing content calendars, you'll help elevate the City's digital presence while supporting broader marketing, public relations, and branding efforts. Working closely with the Public Information Officer and Communications Team, you'll be at the forefront of innovative outreach-strengthening relationships, increasing visibility, and making sure the community stays informed, connected, and inspired.

Accepted examples may include:
- Social media campaigns (Instagram Reels, carousels, TikTok content)

- Writing samples (social captions, campaign copy, social copy)
Alternative (if applicant has limited professional portfolio): 1. Applicants may submit a sample social media graphic campaign concept for the City in lieu of professional work samples. Please submit email to christina.hernandez@coronaca.gov by the application deadline.
Application Process Applications will be accepted until Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at 12:00PM. Candidates that successfully pass the screening process and are deemed to possess the most desirable qualifications will be invited to a virtual HireVue interview. Candidates who pass the virtual HireVue interview will be invited to the in-person oral interviews tentatively scheduled for June 17, 2026. Select candidates may be invited to a second interview. Those who pass the oral interviews will be placed on an eligibility list that is good for up to 1 year unless exhausted sooner by the department. The successful candidate will be required to undergo a reference / background check including livescan and pass a pre-employment medical examination (which will include a drug/alcohol screening). Education and Experience
- Associate degree in marketing, journalism, communications, or related field.
- Two (2) years of experience in the development and coordination of public information, community outreach, or social media marketing.
Licenses and Certifications
- Possession of a valid Class "C" California Driver's License, to be maintained throughout employment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of principles, practices, methods, and techniques of marketing, public information, media relations, and community relations programs.
- Fundamentals of photography, videography, and graphic design.
- Methods and techniques of social media, web, and video communications.
- Prepare and present information in various formats and for diverse audiences.
- Effectively represent the City in meetings with the public, governmental agencies, community groups, and various businesses and professional organizations.

THE ORGANIZATION The City of Corona is a General Law city operating under a Council-Manager form of government. Policy making and legislative authority is vested in the City Council, consisting of a Mayor and four Council Members. Members of the City Council are elected by District to a four-year term. The Mayor is selected by the Council and serves as the presiding officer for one year. The City is organized into the following departments/organizational units: Community Services, City Manager's Office, Economic Development, Finance, Fire, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal and Risk Management, Police, Planning & Development, Public Works and Utilities. Oversight of these departments is divided between the City Manager and two Assistant City Managers. The City's total operating budget for Fiscal Year 2026 is $422.7 million with a General Fund operating budget of $231.3 million. Corona enjoys a workforce of 935 dedicated employees who provide high-quality services to its residents and visitors each day.
