Job Description

Job Summary

The Purchasing Agent/Buyer is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring materials, equipment, and services required for metal roofing operations. This role ensures cost-effective purchasing while maintaining quality standards, supplier reliability, and timely delivery to support production and project schedules.

This position is in-person preferred, with possibility of remote work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Source and purchase metal roofing materials such as steel coils, aluminum sheets, fasteners, coatings, insulation, and accessories
  • Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers, mills, and distributors
  • Negotiate pricing, contracts, and terms to achieve cost savings and favorable conditions
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with warehouse and production teams to maintain optimal stock
  • Issue purchase orders and track order status to ensure on-time delivery
  • Evaluate supplier performance based on quality, pricing, and delivery reliability
  • Stay informed on market trends, including metal pricing fluctuations (steel, aluminum, etc.)
  • Collaborate with project managers and estimators to forecast material needs
  • Resolve issues related to delays, shortages, or defective materials
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations

Preferred Skills

  • Understanding of metal markets (steel, aluminum pricing trends)
  • Ability to read construction drawings and material takeoffs
  • Experience with inventory management systems
  • Analytical mindset with cost-control focus
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

Work Environment

  • Office-based with frequent communication with suppliers and internal teams
  • Occasional visits to warehouses, job sites, or supplier facilities
  • May require extended hours during peak construction seasons


Qualifications


  • High school diploma or GED is required
  • Minimum of two (2) years of purchasing / procurement experience is preferred
  • Manufacturing administrative support experience is preferred
  • Must be PC proficient and have a good understanding of Microsoft Office products, e-mail and Internet use
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to resolve problems both internally and externally with customers
  • Ability to think conceptually and produce desired results
  • A combination of education and experience may be qualifying

The US base salary range for this full-time position starts at $45,000+(Based on your experience and qualifications).
