Title: Human Resources Supervisor Salary Range: $78,000 - $81,000 Annually Status: Exempt Location: Bessemer City, NC Reports to: HR Manager GENERAL DISCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Human Resources Supervisor, along with the HR team, is responsible for providing support for the full employment cycle of the plant employees. This includes hiring, orientation, training, employee relations and accurate record keeping. This role is deeply involved in the day-to-day operational challenges of a labor-intensive environment, such as managing high turnover, ensuring worker safety, and maintaining strict compliance with labor laws. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS / DUTIES OF THE POSITION: New Hires Onboarding and Employee Retention (plant employees) - 10% * Collaborate with operations and support leaders to ensure adequate plant employee staffing levels to meet the organization's goals and objectives. * Oversee the new hire process from paperwork completion and onboarding to training and check-ins with employees. * Work closely on the plant's succession planning process with plant employees. * Manage the process of regularly scheduled employee check-ins including, but not limited to, 7 days, 30 days,90 days and 365 days check -ins to ensure smooth onboarding and retention. * Assist with the organization of training & development initiatives to assist with retention. Compliance - 20% * Ensure compliance in completing I-9's and E-Verify system entries. * Ensure compliance with all federal, state, local laws and company policies. Employee Relations -35% * Foster a welcoming environment with employees and monitor the organizational culture so that it supports the company's goals and promotes employee satisfaction and engagement. * Establish and maintain effective working relationships with and between employees, supervisors, and managers. Maintain relationships with employees at all levels of the organization. Promote and foster an environment of open communication and honest, candid feedback. * Assist with the design, implementation, management of initiatives to improve HR programs to drive employee engagement and satisfaction. * Advise managers and supervisors in employee investigations, counseling and termination guidelines to ensure fair and equitable treatment of employees. * Maintain knowledge of all company policies and practices and ensure consistency in adherence. * Prompt execution of all investigations and resolution of employee issues. * Respond to and track disciplinary action requests made by department supervisors/managers. Review and make decisions based on facts reported while maintaining consistency with past practices. Counsel managers on employment issues. Human Resources Department Supervision and Coordination - 25% * Oversee day-to-day operations and responsibilities of the HR staff such as, recordkeeping, payroll processing and compliance, customer service, wellness events, temp employee acquisition, leave of absence administration, benefits administration, etc. * Train and mentor, the HR staff in any applicable legal updates and standards to ensure compliance. * Ensure effective policies and procedures are in place and are processed timely, accurately and within legal requirements while meeting organizational objectives. * Prepare and analyze data to evaluate HR Department accomplishments in relation to established goals. Recommend new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department when needed. * Coordinate regularly scheduled as well as surprise audits to ensure compliance with regulatory agency requirements as well as to prevent errors in processing of internal data. Other - 5% * Follow all food safety requirements and GMP's as applicable for this position. * Ensure the integrity and continued operations of the food safety system in the event of organizational or personnel changes within the company or associated facilities. * Serve as backup for all HR-related matters in the absence of the HR Manager. * Support special projects. * Other duties as assigned. JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES: * 5 years minimum in a Human Resources position with Generalist exposure preferably in the produce industry and 3 years Supervisory experience * Proficiency in Microsoft word, Excel, Database programs, preferably ADP, Workforce time keeping system, ACCESS or HRIS. * Strong working knowledge of State and Federal Laws. * Bi-lingual skills specific to the location's workforce needs - both oral and written are strongly preferred. * Ability to travel to local offices periodically. * Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks concurrently; ability to maintain positive working relationships. * Must have the ability to make decisions, appear for work on time, follow directions, communicate well with co-workers, understand and follow posted work rules/procedures and accept feedback for improvement. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: * Work is performed in a typical office environment. * While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, talk or hear to communicate, as well as maneuver around an array of equipment, bend, stoop and climb stairs. * The employee must occasionally lift (including overhead) and/or up to 15lbs. * There may be situations where it will be required to be present on the plant floor where the environment is 34 degrees, the ambient air has the presence of fumes, the floors and surfaces are wet, there is the use of industrial equipment and moving machinery, and the use and wearing of PPE is required. WORK HOUR & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: * Ability to work beyond regular business hours, weekends, rotating shifts preferred/required to meet business needs. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: * Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training preferred. * PHR certification very desirable. EEO STATEMENT: We are an equal opportunity employer.
