A Printpack QA Technician ensures that Printpack's products are produced in specification and meet customer requirements. They conduct various tests and inspections on raw materials, finished products, and in-process materials.

The QA Technician uses physical and analytical laboratory equipment and techniques to measure and analyze product characteristics, such as coefficient of friction, laminate bond strength, and print quality. They also maintain detailed records of quality control activities and communicate findings to other team members, to other departments/functions, and to plant leadership.

QA Technician is an entry-level job, will include training, and be supervised bya Quality Supervisor or Quality Manager.

This role will support a 3/2 Schedule Key Responsibilities:
  • Execute quality assurance sampling and testing in accordance with internal standards and customer specifications.

    • Use a variety of lab and testing equipment, including:

  • Spectrophotometers for color analysis

  • Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) for chemical analysis

  • Tensile testers for material strength

  • Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) for material identification*

  • Mocon instruments for measuring Moisture Vapor Transmission Rate (MVTR) and Oxygen Transmission Rate (OTR)*

  • Optical microscopes for detailed surface and cross-section examination*

  • Coefficient of friction

    • Conduct visual inspections on all representative samples from materials produced across multiple production lines/processes.

    • Exhibit proficiency in the utilization of measurement instruments in both US customary and metric systems.

  • Articulate and disseminate results effectively to various levels of personnel, including Department Operators, Team Leads, Supervisors, and Management.

  • Navigate and extract pertinent job and production information, specifications, and testing frequency requirements from Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) interfaces.

  • Ensure accurate and timely data entry into the ERP system for comprehensive record-keeping and reporting purposes.

  • Create hold tags for defective material and ensure proper identification of tagged rolls.

  • Uphold and contribute to the department's 5S standards, including housekeeping practices and efficient inventory management of supplies.

  • Organize and archive job jackets, laboratory data sheets, and retain samples on a daily basis.

  • Engage in and contribute to Food Safety, Continuous Improvement (CI), Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), and Behavior-Based Safety Observation (BBSO) initiatives.

Qualifications:
  • QA Technician or equivalent industry experience preferred

  • Experience in industrial manufacturing; lab experience preferred

  • Proficiency in computer skills, time management, and data interpretation preferred

  • Skilled in using measurement tools in both US and Metric systems required

  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures and work instructions required

  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail required

  • High school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent experience; must be 18 years or older

  • Willingness to learn, ask questions, and be taught new skills and concepts

  • Ability to maintain a clean and safe work environment

Physical Demands & Travel:
  • Ability to stand for significant periods of time and to move throughout the plant (this includes steps and ladders).

  • Work is mostly completed in the lab, but work will occasionally be done machine-side and in the warehouse.

Work Conditions:
  • Candidate must be based at a Printpack production location and be willing to work overtime as needed.
