Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Telecommunications Analyst II within the Enterprise Infrastructure of Office of Information Technology (
OIT).
Reporting to the Managing Telecommunications Analyst, the Telecommunication Analyst II is responsible for performing cable installations, repairs and maintenance of existing cable, TV installations and programming, assistance with conferencing hardware programming and installations and providing vendor access. The position will also be responsible for estimates as well as recommendations on repair, replacement and upgrades of system components and provide timely updates to the
CAD team of cable installs and relocates. This position will need to function with a high level of autonomy with all team members, EI Partners, the Network Operations Center (
NOC) and third-party contractors, while providing continual status updates to Manager on open issues. You will be responsible for developing positive relationships with departmental clients and supporting the mission and values of the Office of Information Technology - Enterprise Infrastructure Service Delivery. These services would be provided across RU Newark campuses.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Cabling Installation, Service and Maintenance: Will provide network cabling support and maintenance on various systems installed through the University. Working under the general guidance of the Managing Telecom Analyst and within the networking guidelines of the University, will respond to daily service calls, investigate, troubleshoot and repair issues on Data, Voice and Telepresence systems/ Infrastructure. Must document time and materials used on each call, maintain appropriate information on submittal forms and in Ticketing system.
- TV and Conferencing Solutions Implementation: Provide technical leadership and apply technical knowledge to the implementation of integrated technical solutions. Collaborate with Manager, installation team members, EI Partners and third-party contracted support on upgrades and replacement of systems components and repairs. Work with customer contacts to install and perform modifications to their requirements. Escalate to manager issues which require contracted vendor support to ensure quick turnaround time. Keep abreast of technical developments in the areas related to telecommunications as they apply to data, voice, conferencing and wireless technologies.
- Cable Plant Estimates & System Documentation: Provide system documentation and solution implementation in support of CAD group. Collaborate installation technicians on implementing cable plant to assure that systems are properly connected and code compliant. Collaborate with building inspectors to ensure that all installations are code compliant, and costs are accurately tracked. Work with EI partners to prepare estimates for the customer so that appropriate system solutions can be funded and installed.
- Work Tickets, Tracking, & Resolutions: Accurately update all work tickets through Ticketing system daily. Appropriately track time and materials, keeping Manager abreast of daily activities. Document repairs and time spent, follow established procedures to update tickets and timesheets.
- VoIP Telephones: Will be responsible for assisting with telephone installations and relocations. Will also be trained in basic programming of Cisco VoIP telephones to have the ability to build, copy, delete voice services as needed.

Qualifications
| Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's Degree in a technical field.
- Equivalent education, experience, and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirements.
- Two (2) years of working experience in telecommunications and computing or in an environment where low voltage cabling, TV installations and equipment programming are performed.
