ENERGY SYSTEMS GROUP is looking for a Solar Solutions Intern to join our team. This individual will be a member of the Solar Solutions Team, and participates as an active team member in the development of solar photovoltaic (PV) projects. This role works to optimize solar energy production and implement innovative technologies to make solar energy systems more efficient and cost-effective. The Development Engineer will be expected to become knowledgeable in application of energy saving strategies, statistical analysis, and work in vertical markets (Federal Government, State and Local Government, Healthcare, K-12 and Higher Education). This individual must possess strong analytical and critical thinking capabilities to address best practices in solar development as well as energy savings analysis. This individual must be self-motivated and able to work independently, but must also be able to interface directly with development engineers, installation team members, M&V engineers and clients to develop solutions. This position requires strong collaboration with sales, construction, and operations teams to deliver exceptional results and expand the company's solar capabilities. The Development Engineer will lead technical strategies, perform energy and financial analyses, and ensure accurate measurement and verification of projected savings on time and within budget. Lastly, this individual will manage assigned work in a professional and timely manner and perform other related duties as assigned. This is a full-time salaried position reporting to the Senior Manager, Solar Solutions and Performance.

The essential functions of the position include:



  • Conduct site assessment to determine solar energy and related technologies potential.
  • Analyze energy consumption and develop strategies for solar and related technology integration and optimization.
  • Perform energy savings calculations, life-cycle cost analysis, and ROI modeling.
  • Design and development of battery storage, solar photovoltaic and related technology systems.
  • Prepare technical designs, schematics, and proposals for solar projects.
  • Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical customers both internal and external.
  • Proactively reviews and/or interprets problems or patterns related to design to limit risk and ensure a high level of customer satisfaction. As appropriate, solves issues or elevates to appropriate senior engineering members for team review and resolution.
  • Provides support to the regional development engineering, construction, and sales teams.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for battery storage, solar technologies, codes, and standards.
  • High understanding of statistical and data analytics.
  • Stay updated on the latest solar technologies and industry trends.
  • Works to secure and maintain relevant professional certifications and licenses (e.g., Professional Engineering license).
  • Work closely with Project Managers to ensure smooth installation and commissioning.
  • Approve equipment specifications and ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Adheres to the strict safety standards of ESG and clients.
  • Requires a responsible, self-starter who can handle multiple responsibilities with minimal supervision.


Your background includes:




  • Minimum:



    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college in business, law, finance, engineering, math, or related field with two or more years' experience, or eight or more years verified experience associated field.
    • Strong statistical analysis and excellent interpersonal communication, analytical and sound business writing skills required.
    • Proven track record in designing and implementing solar PV systems and energy efficiency measures.
    • Familiarity with Federal and State renewable energy programs, incentive structures, and M&V protocols (IPMVP, FEMP).
    • Proficiency in solar design software (e.g., PVsyst, Helioscope), AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently with minimal supervision
    • Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations



  • Preferred:



    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Renewable Energy Engineering (ABET accredited preferred).
    • Professional Engineering (PE) license.
    • Certifications such as NABCEP, CEM, or CMVP highly desirable.
