THE POSITION

Begin a rewarding path as an Oil and Gas Inspector for the Department of Environmental Protection. This position gives you the opportunity to help ensure safe and responsible oil and gas operations across the state. You will work both outdoors and with digital tools to monitor important activities and support public well-being. Your work will directly contribute to cleaner communities and stronger environmental protection.


DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position helps ensure that oil and gas activities in Pennsylvania follow important safety and environmental rules. The role involves field inspections, documentation, and direct communication with operators and the public. As a Oil and Gas Inspector, you will perform the following duties:

  • Inspection Work: Conduct inspections of wells and related sites during drilling, production, alteration, and plugging phases
  • Complaint Response: Investigate public complaints by gathering information, visiting sites, and documenting findings
  • Enforcement Actions: Issue violation notices and assist with follow up steps to support compliance with laws and regulations
  • Record Review: Evaluate well records, reports, logs, and requests to determine accuracy and regulatory alignment
  • Sampling Activities: Collect and preserve gas samples using proper techniques during field investigations
  • Data Entry: Enter inspection and investigation information into required systems within set timeframes

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in New Stanton. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of technical experience in well design, drilling, completion, production, plugging, or underground storage operations in the oil or natural gas industry; or
  • An associate's degree in Petroleum Technology or closely related field, and one year of technical experience in well design, drilling, completion, production, plugging, or underground storage operations in the oil or natural gas industry.

Special Requirements:
  • This position requires possession of a valid driver's license.

Other Requirements:

  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
