JOB SUMMARY |
The Manufacturing Process Intern is responsible for assisting manufacturing engineers with design, procurement, and housekeeping of production equipment and facilities equipment required to support manufacturing operations. They will also support continuous improvement efforts within manufacturing operations. This role assists in identifying and implementing process improvements, supporting CAPEX project evaluations, participating in process and 5S audits, and contributing to Kaizen and continuous improvement (CI) initiatives. The intern will work cross-functionally with operations, quality, safety, and engineering teams to help improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance while gaining hands-on experience in manufacturing systems and standard work practices. |
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES |
- Assist in identifying opportunities for process improvements within manufacturing operations
- Support CAPEX project analysis, data collection, and justification efforts
- Participate in process audits and 5S assessments; help document findings and track action items
- Contribute to Kaizen events and continuous improvement initiatives
- Collect and analyze data related to Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and performance metrics
- Help develop and maintain reports, dashboards, and visual management tools
- Support the creation and updating of standard work documentation
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (operations, quality, safety, engineering) on improvement efforts
- Assist in tracking progress of improvement plans and follow-up actions
- Assist manufacturing engineers with the design of new fixtures and equipment. Modify existing fixtures and equipment in specific areas of responsibility to improve production efficiency.
- Develop and maintain a sound general product knowledge and more specific product knowledge relating to application and manufacturing processes.
- Effectively support supervision and shop operators with day-to-day production challenges with a focus on product quality and schedule attainment. Work closely with shop operators on process improvement and ideas.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES |
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with data analysis tools is a plus
- Effective communication and teamwork skills
- Self-motivated with a willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment
- Good mechanical aptitude
- Desirable experience in AutoCAD or SolidWorks CAD suites

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE |
Required Education / Experience
- Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management or a related field.
- Knowledge of structural, machine tooling, maintenance methods, material handling, etc.
Preferred Education / Experience
- Basic knowledge of lean manufacturing
- Interest in continuous improvement and manufacturing operations
