Motion Designer - Client Design Studio
The client Design Studio is seeking an experienced Motion Designer to join as a Contingent Worker (CW). This role focuses on designing and producing creative inventory for the Edits creative tools libraries, specifically including text effects, video transitions, and video effects.
CWAM is looking for strong visual design direction with motion as one part of the toolkit (not motion-only).
Minimum Years of Experience: 5 +
Must-Have Skills:
- Motion design + VFX production for product (text effects, transitions, filters/effects mindset; strong timing, polish, taste).
- After Effects + Figma proficiency (building, iterating, organizing, and documenting systems of effects).
- Implementation-oriented collaboration with creative coders/technical artists (clear specs, constraints-aware design, prototyping/iteration in tools, clean handoff).
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- Experience with 3D and real-time VFX concepts, including depth, particles, lighting styles, and real-time constraints.
- Proficiency in prototyping workflows, including the ability to rapidly iterate within internal prototyping tools.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted creative workflows for tasks such as generating and iterating on textures, motion studies, and style exploration.
- Knowledge of color grading and LUTs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and produce creative assets for product features.
- Collaborate with Creative Coders to refine designs within internal prototyping tools and product builds.
- Prepare detailed documentation and handoff materials for Engineers.
- Work under the direction of the Creative Director or Art Director.
Required Experience and Skills:
- 5 + years of experience in designing and producing graphics and visual effects for real-time products and experiences.
- Proven expertise in the design and production of VFX and animated graphics.
- Proficiency with After Effects and Figma.
- Experience translating designs into shaders and post-processing effects, including working closely with technical artists or creative coders.
- Experience implementing designs into a technical creative pipeline.
- Background in filmmaking/editing or short-form video production.
Desired Qualifications (Bonus):
- Proficiency with prototyping workflows.
- Experience with 3D VFX.
- Knowledge of AI workflows.
Key Projects/Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
- Design and produce creative inventory for Edits creative tools libraries (e.g., text effects, video transitions, video effects).
- Iterate with Creative Coders to refine motion/VFX in internal prototyping tools and product builds.
- Prepare documentation + handoff materials for Engineers (specs, naming, parameters, usage guidance, examples).
- Work under direction of a Creative Director / Art Director; align output to Studio quality bar and consistency.
Purpose/Size of this team & where does this position fit within the team?
This role is for a Designer III who will be part of the larger Instagram design team, specifically concentrating on the edits app. The team currently consists of 24 full-time members plus contingent workers. This person will report directly to the hiring manager or a design lead.
