The Transit and Rail Practice is seeking a Transit and Rail Planner in Salt Lake City, UT.

Do you want to be part of a fast growing team shaping the future of transit and mobility? This role offers the opportunity to work across the firm within our Transit and Rail Planning group as part of the Transportation Business Unit's Transit and Rail (TaR) Practice. You'll support transit, rail, and multimodal planning efforts and contribute to analysis, documentation, public engagement, and policy development in collaboration with clients and project teams. In doing so, you'll play an important role in strengthening and expanding the capabilities of our growing Transit and Rail planning team.

What You'll Do Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform creative planning work involving both conventional and unconventional approaches, including investigations and surveys with occasionally complex or unprecedented features
  • Analyze land use, equity, transit and rail services, and mobility issues at metropolitan and statewide scales
  • Apply knowledge of transit and rail planning concepts, terminology, and support systems
  • Contribute to the development of planning documentation and technical materials
  • Support public and community outreach efforts by engaging with client staff and leadership, public agency representatives, and the general public
  • Coordinate with reviewers to secure project approvals and permits, and collaborate with project managers to address required plan revisions
  • Draft policy and regulatory language on behalf of public and private sector clients
  • Identify and evaluate planning strategies to help clients assess projects and alternative scenarios
  • Develop and deliver presentations and facilitate public meetings and workshops
  • Engage with current and prospective clients to identify, evaluate, and respond to rail, transit, and multimodal transportation planning needs
  • Assist with the preparation of discretionary grant applications to support project funding
  • Prepare fee proposals, develop work plans, and coordinate planning efforts in support of effective project management
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
What You Bring Required Qualifications:
  • One (1) or more years of experience working with a local or regional transit agency, railroad, or transportation consultancy
  • Two (2) or more years of experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Suite software
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a team oriented environment across multiple geographies
  • One (1) or more years of experience supporting public involvement or community engagement activities, including preparation of materials such as videos, social media content, and one page summaries
  • Bachelor's degree in Geography, Planning, Public Administration, Economics, Urban Ecology, or a related field
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two (2) or more years of experience and familiarity with ESRI ArcGIS Pro
  • One (1) or more years of applicable project experience supporting NEPA processes and transportation planning efforts
  • Master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning, Geography, Economics, or a related field
  • One (1) or more years of experience supporting discretionary grant applications, including CRISI, NRPP, and RCE grants
