THE POSITION

Join the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources as a Forest Maintenance Worker (Semi Skilled Laborer) and help keep our forests healthy and welcoming. This role gives you the chance to work outdoors while supporting essential conservation efforts. Your work will help visitors enjoy safe roads, trails, and recreational spaces. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports the upkeep and protection of State Forest lands through year round outdoor maintenance and repair work. As a Forest Maintenance Worker (Semi Skilled Laborer), you will perform the following duties:

  • Road Maintenance: Clear culverts, remove stones, clean ditches, and cut brush along forest roads
  • Fence and Planting Work: Maintain deer fences, plant trees, and operate equipment for tree planting projects
  • Trail Upkeep: Groom snowmobile trails, clear brush, operate ATVs, and mark hiking and riding trails
  • Facility Care: Perform painting, roofing, concrete work, and general upkeep of state buildings
  • Fire Response: Maintain wildfire tools, reduce fire hazards, and assist with fire detection and suppression

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • This is a seasonal, full-time position with no healthcare benefits. The season runs from approximately March 2026 through November 2026, at which time the employee will be placed on leave without pay. The employee will automatically be returned to employment March 2027.
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM, Tuesday - Thursday, with a 30-minute lunch; 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM Friday, with a 30-minute lunch; Monday off.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Conditions of Employment:
  • This position requires possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.
