Be a Tar Heel!
The CAS Financial Data Analyst role is for someone who likes to dig into messy data and figure out what's actually going on. Enjoys being asked questions like "why does this look off?" or "can we understand this better?" Is comfortable doing both hands-on reporting work and deeper analysis. Wants to learn the business side (finance/operations) and not just build reports in isolation. You'll work closely with our finance and HR team and leadership to:

  • Build and improve reporting.
  • Answer ad hoc questions (some quick, some complex).
  • Do deeper dives when something doesn't add up.
  • Help us figure out what we should be tracking-not just what we already are What You'll Actually Spend Time Doing Pulling data from multiple systems and figuring out how it fits together.
  • Building and refining reports and dashboards (Tableau or similar).
  • Getting asked questions that don't have clean answers-and working through them.
  • Spotting inconsistencies or trends and digging deeper to explain them.
  • Partnering with finance to understand how budgets and operations actually work.
  • Doing some routine reporting while building toward more advanced analysis.

This is a great fit if you:

  • Are early- to mid-career and want to grow into a more strategic analytics role
  • Like problem-solving more than just report production
  • Enjoy being hands-on and figuring things out yourself
  • Want exposure to finance, operations, and leadership decision-making
  • Are currently at UNC (or similar) and looking for a growth opportunity What This Role Is Not
  • Not a purely technical/engineering role
  • Not a purely strategic "sit in meetings all day" role
  • Not a fully polished data environment-you'll help us build it
