  1. Conduct comprehensive and episodic medical assessments of cardiac ICU patients, including medical history and physical examination.
  2. Establish medical diagnoses and develop treatment plans in collaboration with the supervising physician for patients with acute and chronic cardiovascular disease, including acute coronary syndromes, cardiogenic shock, advanced heart failure, complex arrhythmias, and post-procedural or post-operative cardiac complications
  3. Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic studies including laboratory testing, ECGs, telemetry, echocardiography, and other cardiovascular diagnostics as authorized.
  4. Initiate, manage, and monitor therapeutic interventions, including vasoactive medications, antiarrhythmics, anticoagulation, diuretics, and other cardiovascular therapies as delegated by the supervising physician.
  5. Perform and/or assist with procedures consistent with training, competency, and approved privileges, including:
    • Arterial and central venous catheter placement
    • Cardioversion and defibrillation
    • Temporary pacing management
    • Chest tube management
  6. Participate in the initiation, management, and monitoring of mechanical circulatory support devices (e.g., IABP, Impella, ECMO, LVAD) in collaboration with physician leadership
  7. Lead or participate in multidisciplinary rounds and coordinate care transitions within the ICU and to lower levels of care.
  8. Provide education and counseling to patients and families regarding diagnosis, prognosis, treatment plans, and recovery expectations.
  9. Seek supervising physician consultation as required by patient condition, job description, or institutional policy.
  10. Act as a clinical resource to nursing and allied health staff.
  11. Maintain accurate, timely documentation of assessments, care provided, and patient responses in the electronic health record.
  12. Practice proper safety techniques and report unsafe conditions per hospital policy.
  • Master's degree as a Physician's Assistant from a recognized university, affiliated with a medical school OR Masters Degree in Nursing.
  • Currently licensed as an advanced practice provider in the state of Georgia by the Georgia Composite Medical Board and certified as a Physician's Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) OR a certified Nurse Practitioner.
  • Must hold American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification.
  • Must hold American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification.
